Hello!

By mistake I detached from the SETI project and lost control over the task I was crunching. Is it possible to get that task or WU back into work again or does we have to wait until the deadline (6 Feb 2008)?.

Currently the scheduler (or whoevever keeps track of it thinks I am working on it). If I can download it again I can resume working on it. I can attach the computer to the SETI project again, but the "risk" is that I get *another* task unit to work with, not the one I was working with.

I am using BOINCstat Account Manager (BAM). (Pressed the wrong button, effectively detached the wrong computer from SETI).
The task unit in question: #680878119

Thanks in advance
/Magnus

Update:

After I sent my previous post I saw that boinc might 'resend' lost task unit in certain circumstances. I tried to attach the computer to SETI again to see if it worked. It did not. I got a brand new task unit to work on, not the one I was crunching before.

Well, at least the old task unit got the status "Client detached", so the schedular may send it out to another computer for validation. :-)

Best regards
/Magnus

You have to merge the two computer records for the resends to work. However I do not think SETI has this feature enabled. I believe the impact on the server for searching the tasks in progress is greater than the impact of letting them time out and be sent to other computers.

SETI certainly has the 'resend lost results' functionality enabled: I think it was one of the first projects to implement the feature. And it was also one of the first to implement 'merge computers by name', which should get round some of the problems with different CPU ident strings returned by different versions of BOINC.

But I must confess I haven't had occasion to test 'resend after merge by name'. Maybe Magnus would like to try it, and report the results to us.
