I am running BOINC (projects SETI@Home+LHC@Home) on a new MacBook.
Please note I am completely new to Mac but not to SETI@Home, running with no problems on a Windows machine downstairs since 1999.
On Mac I am currently experiencing these non-fatal but annoying problems so far:
-no graphics show when the screensaver starts, just the message 'Boinc is currently suspended'
-I cannot make this machine work on BOINC projects when I am active, although I changed my preferences to do so, hit the 'update' button AND even restarted the computer.

THANKS

Cecilia

Cecilia, the boinc graphics have never worked properly on a mac... Which is kinda odd because macs are all about graphics... ;)
It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . .

This is the 3rd Mac I have been running SAH on. The graphics have always worked fine for me. Seti suspends operation when it runs out of work. Try updating the project.

What I've always done to keep my Mac crunching during use is to set BOINC Manager to 'Always Run' under the activity menu... then instead of quitting the program, just close the window. Sure, the BOINC Manager icon says in the Dock, but no annoying window getting in the way. It's always crunched that way.

Of course, to have BOINC crunch as set in you preferences online, set under the same Activity menu to 'Run based on prefs.'

Also, have you double checked that BOINC is selected under the Screensaver section of "Desktop & Screen Saver' in the System Preferences, and that the correct time to activate is selected???

Good luck with your MacBook Pro ^_^ ! A little jealous here :p .....

I donÕt recall having any problems with the graphics, except on one G4 system I upgraded to BOINC v5.8.x (and then to v5.10.x with no improvement), on which the graphics starting or stopping seems to have about a 50-50 chance of causing the science app to error out; although IÕve resorted to disabling the screensaver for the time being, IÕll probably be rolling BOINC back to v5.4.9 on that one. Not counting the systems on which I installed BOINC as a service, my G5, my partnerÕs C2D iMac, and the other G4s on my account have always been just fine with the graphics, whether invoked by the screensaver or the Show Graphics button.

FWIW my preferences have always been set to work while the system is in use and to keep apps in memory.
