Just got my copy of Leopard in the mail today (one day early :D ! -go figure :p ~), installed, and it seems that the screensaver doesn't like to work with the new version of the OS. If the BOINC client is open & set to "always run", then the screensaver'll come on, but otherwise all by itself, no (also, the SETI app icon likes to sit in the Dock).

Tried the newest development version, but same effect. Something to look out for as more people install in the coming days ahead.

Regards,
Eric

The conveniences of ordering online :p (& mere luck anyways ^_~ ). The closest Apple Store's 50 miles up the road in a different city anyways, so ~_~ .....

There is a thread in the BOINC stats about this toppic, too. The BOINC client must be modified for 10.5. The BOINC devs would do this, when Leopard is released.

Just installed Leopard

Me too... Apple outdid themselves this time... And, well, I'm speechless... ;)

(Turns out, power cords & Leopard don't play nice. So if you can't install on a MacBook, pull the power cord and you'll be good to go.)

Yeah, I restarted a couple of my Macs and now it's working... go figure :p ! The only other thing, BOINC now registers as a user process in Activity Viewer instead of 'nice'. Don't know if that's all that unusual or not ^_~ ...

Leopard isn't all that bad! Gets a little flaky after leaving it on for a while, but I'm sure that all those bugs will be worked out eventually B) .....

I find that the Finder in Leopard still has a few bugs in it. I've had it hang when dragging a file to a dock icon and when generating Document Flowâ„¢ icons, both times requiring a force quite of the Finder.

I've also had Boinc die on me once overnight. I do not know it it was a crash or what, as I did not see the usual crash report dialog.

Otherwise, it looks like an interesting upgrade. I need some time to get used to it.

mine did too but I just kept wiping the dust off an reinserting the DVD until it "took". no problems installing after than but!

confirm on OSX 10.5 optimised seti app no longer runs as "Nice" but instead as "User". Have had to cut "max CPU % usage" to 50% (i686Intel duo core @1.86 GHz

I installed Leopard & can't launch SETI. I downloaded fresh version of BOINC and the installer freezes at the select install drive window. What do I do ? Is SETI going to be updated soon to deal with Leopard ?

What do I do ?

I would wait until Apple fixes their installer bug... ;)

When I installed VectorWorks the installer gave me this message: 'The Vectorworks installation has quit due to a bug in Leopards installer application'... It also gave me the option to try again, I did, and it worked... Talk about an 'intelligent' operating system... Leopard recognized its shortcomings and rectified the problem all by itself...

This issue is disturbing as I run BOINC on my professional Mac Pro only if the nice mode is available. Does the problem come from BOINC not yet ready for 10.5 or from Leopard ? Any hint welcome.

Cheers from Paris

I have the same problem with 'nice'. I've just updated to 5.10.28 from 5.10.20, but it's still the same.

I loaded Leopard on a PowerBook G4 1.33Ghz and I did an clean install (formatted HD and installed Leopard) for testing last Friday before I can roll it out other users. I installed BOINC yesterday version 5.10.28 and I have two projects running, SETI and World Community Grid, but notice after running the BONIC all night that SETI or World Community Grid seem to "taken" all of the CPU cycles and when I tried to use "Force Quit" the SETI or World Community Grid process it doesn't die, it just says "Not responding". I tried to reboot and the SETI process seems to hang the reboot and when I try to force quit the process it hangs also. I finally resorted to use Activity Monitor to kill both SETI or World Community Grid and BOINC before they died and finally was able to reboot my PowerBook. I never had such a tenacious process running before.
I'm checking if anyone seen this before.

Many times, but never with BOINC... ;)

I've had the BOINC Manager hang/freeze while the crunches still kept going. I then force quit the manager and restart it. This happens about every other day or third day. It looks like BOINC may need an update for Leopard.

Any guesstimate from the volunteer testers/developers on how long it will be until we see an update for Leopard? Would love to see BOINC & Leopard be nice to each other for the holidays :D (not that I'm complaining or anything ^_~ ~)!.....
