Did god rush out the rules too quickly the first time? What service pack are we on now? Nope! God recognized, admitted, and corrected His mistake of placing people in charge of punishments... After 2000 years, it's quite apparent that we are just slow to adopt... Very slow... ;) (We are still on service pack three, the final release.) Todays lesson, 'Persecution' Persecute: To pursue in a manner to injure, grieve, or afflict; to beset with cruelty or malignity; to harass; especially, to afflict, harass, punish, or put to death, for adherence to a particular religious creed or mode of worship. To harass with importunity; to pursue with persistent solicitations; to annoy. To oppress; harass; distress; worry; annoy. Persecution: The act or practice of persecuting; especially, the infliction of loss, pain, or death for adherence to a particular creed or mode of worship. Matthew 5:10-11 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. John 15:20-22 Remember the word that I said to you, `A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. II Timothy 3:12 Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. Any questions? ;) (I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have so willfully participated. THANK YOU ALL!) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

... I think we are on Service Pack 9, but the really important things have always been and remain the same. |

To date, this was the greatest flaw found within the Holy Books: Matthew 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. The Old Testament prophets made no mention of this... Which is true, but not very 'earth-shattering'... Got anything better yet? ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Did god rush out the rules too quickly the first time? What service pack are we on now? So by logical implication the God that you believe in is fallible, capable of error, and by extension not omniscient either. Because if he was all knowing he would not have made these 'mistakes', as you call them, in the first place. Furthermore, if he was omniscient and made these mistakes anyway he's not omnibenevolent. Your god gets more humanlike everyday, Jeffrey. Genesis 6:5-8 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the ground, man and beast and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Jeremiah 31:31-32 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD. Hebrews 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second. Actually, God made two mistakes... But as you can see, both had more to do with mans disobedience than God making mistakes... Is that the best you got? ;) (One could say that was two strikes. The third strike, and you're out.) Here's an odd question: What if someone died, reached the gates of heaven and was asked to come in but refused? What if God thought they were worthy of heaven but they elected not to enter? Does a 'good' person have no other choice but to go to heaven when they die? . |

Here's an odd question: Now that IS a rather odd question... I think you'll need to ask God about that one when you arrive at the pearly gates... My guess is that you could pull the 'freewill card' and 'get out of heaven free' if you so desire... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

To date, this was the greatest flaw found within the Holy Books: The Old Testament contents not all prophets, some of them are only mentioned by their name, but their works have not become part of the canon - so maybe some of those prophets can also have spoken about Jesus the Nazarene, don't you think? Yes, that was my explaination a year ago... I was just trying to bring things up to speed and see if the nonbelievers had anything better to toss at me... Apparently, they do not... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Here's an odd question: I reached into the back pocket of my trousers in search of a 'get out of this thread' card and having failed to find it I'm still drawn back here as part of my community service to the Goddess of Logic (2 pts to anyone that can quote her name.:-)....) Having failed to discover relief with that set of fingers I used the other hand in quest of a 'get out of logic' card in vain hopes that discovery of that would ameliorate the overall experience. Instead, as a result of such a failed endeavor, all of you are stuck with me. Mr. Humorless. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Rational people crunching data! Jeffrey, you quoted some Bible verses but did not address the serious logical implications of your statements that clearly contradict scripture given your assertion that in creation God made mistakes. James 2:5-7 Listen, my beloved brethren. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you, is it not they who drag you into court? Is it not they who blaspheme that honorable name which was invoked over you? My God ALWAYS hits the nail on the head... He knew 'capitalists' long before 'capitalists' even existed... ;) (There is a God, as has been proven time and time again.) Ecclesiastes 1:1-12 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains for ever. The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. The wind blows to the south, and goes round to the north; round and round goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a thing of which it is said, "See, this is new"? It has been already, in the ages before us. There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to happen among those who come after. I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. The 'condensed' version... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Please, Jeffrey. make your point using facts, logic, and reason. Don't make us come invent a God of our own and claim his word is superior to yours. That ends all debate doesn't it? Once we both claim 'faith' ? also, when you get the time please renounce those suicide bombers that keep killing little school children.....whenever you get the time. Been asking you for over a year to speak out against your 'muslim brothers' that murder people but you still won't do it. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Don't make us come invent a God of our own and claim his word is superior to yours. God presented you with that challenge almost 2000 years ago: Qur'an 10:37-38 This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book − wherein there is no doubt − from the Lord of the worlds. Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!" We are still waiting... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

I for one have pulled all of my "Faith" investments out of religion and invested them in science some years ago. Not much of a multi-tasker, eh? ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Still a nice way to deflect from the brunt of my point I got your point... You are exercising your 'freewill'... I saw no point in refuting your position... Science is about this life and religion is about the afterlife... Religion will never get us to Pluto, nor will science ever get us to heaven... I plan on achieving both, God willing... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Still a nice way to deflect from the brunt of my point Somehow Jeffrey I suspect there are some people that pray you fulfill your dream of leaving us and residing on some far away place like Pluto.
