Do you think something like BEA Tuxedo could run BOINC / SETI? Seems like it would be good for management of a farm with its features. (not saying its cost effective, just theoretical )

Knowing nothing about Tuxedo except for reading the page you linked to, I understand it would be fine where the equipment to support the redundancy offered by this system could be implemented, however that's just the problem with SETI. There's only a limited amount of hardware available to run the different services on. If SETI had the hardware, then sure it sounds good in that if a database server went down, or got bogged down the load could be transfered to another one, or if more wu's needed split then additional splitters could be fired up, etc.

This seems fine where a coorporation or institution *must* remain up and running and has the resources to provide the redundant equipment, but SETI is not "mission critical" and doesn't have the hardware necessary to implement such a system.

This is, as I said, from my general impression I got from the link you posted. I may be completely wrong about it's uses, etc.

I am more of a weblogic server guy, but I think tuxedo does the same things basically. You get high availability, central management and deployment of applications. I think Tuxedo is the C++ version of weblogic server.

I am a tinkerer at heart as I suspect most of you are and was just pondering the thought. :) I was thinking of downloading the demo and playing with it out of curiosity and was wondering if anyone had considered it before.
