hrm i donated too and didnt get a green star about a month ago. i used the paypal link, maybe thats slower

Send a private message to Blurf, and he will contact those that need to be and get it figured out for ya. Blurf has been doing an outstanding job at getting people's star to show up since he has taken over the donations function for the project. :-)

Second, you are donating actually to the whole school Berkeley when you donate to SETI...

And now I'm on their junk mail list wasting UCBerkeley money on printing & postage, wasting USPS time/effort/money, wasting my time throwing away, and wasting space in the landfill.

Getting junk postal mail from an organization I've donated money to **REALLY** turns me OFF. It reduces our donation even more!!

Is there an electronic way for folks to "opt out" of UC's junk mail list?

I haven't gotten any junk mail yet, just the Confirmation Letter for an August donation within about 1.5 weeks.

I haven't looked, but maybe through the main site?

First of all.......you are not really donating to the whole of Berkeley when you make a donation to Seti. They take a small percentage off of the top to cover administrative fees and such. The rest goes to the project. And don't forget that the university supplies the buildings, utilities, and electricity to run the project. I suspect that the real cost of those items far outstrips what they take off the top.
And as far as 'junk mail' is concerned, I have received a nice letter of thanks when I have made my donations, and one or two promotional mailers a year about the Berkeley campus and programs.
But if there were an opt-out list to subscribe to that would stop even that small amount of mail, it would not be a bad thing for those who have no interest in it.

I've donated twice (once a year, for the last two years, next donation is a couple months off), and I haven't recieved any junk mail from them. I've only gotten the printed "thank you" letter once with each donation.

Hmmmm. Campus isn't supposed to be doing that to our donors. If you get junk mail it should be from us! ;)

I'll contact the development office and see what can be done.

A couple of weeks ago, I received an expensively-printed booklet called 'The Promise of Berkeley' (Fall 2007). I don't really mind, but it did seem to be a bit of a waste - especially when you factor in the postage to the UK - and unlikely to be of any benefit, since SETI is my only link with the university.

Other people don't seem to be receiving things like this - I wonder if they have a sliding scale of junk according to donation level? 'Little and often' keeps you off the lists, but saving up and sending it all in a lump gets treated differently?

I got a window sticker that says something like "I feed the Bears" along with a letter, I don't actually remember what else might have been in there...

I got this

from Boinc for putting up with Dr A and Rom as a Boinc alpha tester, but other than the two thank you cards for my seti donations, nothing else has made it to my mail box.

I also get those, once or twice a year. When I donated I clicked the ÒFriend of UCBÓ button because IÕm not an alumnus, parent, or anything else from the options provided, but maybe I could have left it blank É just a guess as to why some donors donÕt get them. Or maybe they only send them to donors outside the USA.
