I'm a user with ID 8617906. Since the very begining of my SETI@home participation I experience loss of my results in result list while credits are granted without any problem. For example now in my result list I have only two results dated the 22 Sep 2007 and the 23 Sep 2007 but nothing else. My TC is 2246.18 that indicates that I have complited much more tasks. At the begining I thought it was caused by some serverside problems related to server move and reorganisation. But after half a year the problem remains. What could it be? |

That's normal. Results will be removed from this list after they are verified and all credits are granted, so to say when the work unit is finished. Then the cannonical result is picked up and transfered to the master science database. After that the results are purged from the Seti servers (and therefore also from your results list) to keep the Databases at a reasonable size. Otherwise (with billions of long ago crunched results) the system would become too huge and unrespondable.. ;-) HTH Andy |

Thank you for your explanation. I was confused by numerous results in lists of other participants. I haven't noticed that all of them correspond to unfinished workunits :) |

So are those results lost for ever? I want to be able to keep my personal results. I joined this project because there is a (remote) possibility that I might find something interesting. It's no use to me if it's just an anonymous donation of computer time. C |

So are those results lost for ever? I want to be able to keep my personal results. I joined this project because there is a (remote) possibility that I might find something interesting. It's no use to me if it's just an anonymous donation of computer time. The main database keeps track of what you did, and if you are the one of the people, you will get recognized. This information is wiped from the online database, because these web pages would not load if you had that much info in them. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

So are those results lost for ever? I want to be able to keep my personal results. I joined this project because there is a (remote) possibility that I might find something interesting. It's no use to me if it's just an anonymous donation of computer time. So why not store the results on the local client disk? It makes sense to me as it is probably only the local client that would be very interested. There is plenty of room for just my results. It could be as an option to cater for those who might not want it. I am away from my computer regularly for a week at a time. I want to know if I have found, for eg, a large number of Guassians in a signal while I have been away. I cannot believe that most other volunteers don't want to know this. Also, I noticed last week that one task had only been given half the requested credit. I was going to look into this but now I cannot because the details have been wiped. In any case, I find the statement that the page would not load with this much information a little strange. Surely the usual solution is to break up the data in to a number of smaller pages if it is too great to display easily on one page. |

All the web pages are one huge database. Keeping every result listed from start of project (2003) to now would be massive amount of information for the database to parse and try to display on a web page. It would just choke at some point. Plus the amount of disc space would be tremendous. SETI does not have the best funding in the world, and would not be able to keep up with all that. As for locally, there are 3rd party programs out there that do what you want. SETI is here just to do their work, and allow 3rd party people to create things others want.
