Another possibility might be if some of us NC regulars popped into the Q & A area a little more often to help out there.

The only thing I might ask of them is to take little time to look over the running threads before starting a new one. You can be pretty sure that any project related problem has most likely been detected by one of the regulars and been brought up for closer scrutiny. Generally we regulars take the effort to make 'problem' related titles descriptive enough so almost everyone can see which ones are applicable to their situations, as a recent new thread just demonstrated. ;-)

And some problems require the help of a techie type to get to the bottom of.

You might consider reading the Enhanced FAQ thread as well as the FAQ itself.

We NC regulars should make the effort to:

1.) Keep an eye on the more entry level Q & A fora, and help out there some more, especially when we know there are current issues with the project which have wide ranging impact to the participants.
2.) Take a closer look at the user profile when a 'newbie' posts here in NC to get a least a thumbnail feel for where they are coming from.
3.) Keep in mind everyone was a newbie once, and someone with a post count of like 2 and posts with a title of 'Help??!!', is probably deep in the smelly stuff already and reeling from what the Manager has been telling him about what's wrong for the last week. The 'Readers Digest' condensed version of the answer may be better in this case.

For the Newbies amd Lurkers:

1.) Keep in mind, NC is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to BOINC and SAH. A lot of action happens in here, and lot of it is pretty 'heavy duty'.
2.) That being said, most of us eat this stuff up with a spoon, and are more than willing to bend your ear about it in excruciating detail, if you give us half a chance.
3.) Even then, the first 'Rule of Wisdom' says that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. So if the first reply elicits a 'glazed eye' response on your part, just say, 'BOINC!!?? What the @#$% does that mean?'

Maybe a stickied thread called "Beginners - Start Here"
Where a Simple message could point someone to the right place.

There is an alternative to the BOINC Wiki, for those that feel lost on that site (no offense to all those who worked hard to contribute to the BOINC Wiki - it's a great site with lots of info).

The BOINC FAQ Service should be a lot easier to search, and we strive to answer questions in layman's terms.

I see now that there's a help button in the BOINC manager, leading to the Help Desk.
Which version was it where this began to show up?
Again, anything that can be done to better advertise this or, if someone has already stumbled into the forums, advertising the links to get help?
