I am gonna try this and see how it goes. If any of you still know how to use IRC, I created a channel for SETI@home.

Go here: Web based IRC client and type:

Nickname: Name of your choice

Server: irc.freenode.net

Channel: SETI@home (you might have to add a #...#SETI@home)

If you have an IRC name then hop in, if not and you plan to be a regular visitor, please register your nick name like so:

Just type: /msg nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL

I am not sure how we would work OP status.I would say the forum moderators would get first hand at that. If you have FireFock, download ChatZilla IRC client, its an add-on. There is also IceChat. And mIRC.

Anyways, hope to see you.

I don't like IRC because of the vulnerability you get to viruses and worms, but am still proficient at it. I'd be willing to come visit if you got a java or flash client going on a web page somewhere. I think ICQ has an IRC interface that was always pretty good at protecting me.

Always good to stealth your IP and host info if your registered on the network:

After you log in to it type /mode your-nick +x or //mode $me +x and your host will be hidden. Easiest to add one of these commands to your perform list just following your /auth info line.

Never click on links unless you know the person WELL. Even then, I'd Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V it into your browser window.

I'd recommend FlashChat. It's cool, looks good, and has the same features as IRC. You can require membership or leave it open.

CalmChaos uses it and I have one for my website as well, though it hasn't taken off yet, but it's there if needed.

Best $5 bucks I've ever spent.

Requirements
·PHP 4.1.0 or higher
·MySQL 3.23 or higher
·Ability to change the permissions of files and folders
·Flash 7 Player or higher

What You Get
·All files needed to install this script on your PHP-enabled web server.
·Web-based Installation Wizard (install.php) to help you get the script up and running quickly.

·100% of the Flash source code, including ALL .fla and .as files.
·Free user-to-user support.
·Free upgrades! (Though Sarge or someone recommends not upgrading, I think.)

Or you can be a responsible server owner such as me and hide hostnames/IP's altogether when they are using IRC :)

Buckingham's got it right. ....and Gray . I have just always found these IRC's to be clumsy affairs.
