why should something be impossible just because WE think it's impossible!
Who are we anyway, after just a mere few million years of evolution!
(That is if you believe in evolution). I would rather call it learning by doing.

All this Seti@home setup is based upon the belief that we are not alone. But I have the feeling that what is happening here is something like if the ants on earth build a reciever to find smart ants somewhere in the universe, listening for their own "ant language" and all they hear is noise, (our transmission for example)!
