Nope - 8TB is all the ext3 version we have (and all others I know about) can handle at maximum block size. Not a big deal - 8TB is fine. And I'm not sure I can bring myself to use ReiserFS given the author's current criminal status (guilty or otherwise).

I don't know if it's good to judge the software by it's author...

Kinda moot though, considering he initially stated that he's not willing to use other file systems - probably due to the almost religious division of users behind each of the multitude of variations. It's almost as bad as all the different variations of the Christian religion! Matt would end up having a debate right here (and not necessarily with him involved) over which FS to use and no end in sight.

BTW I'm not being serious about the ReiserFS thing. Just using it as an excuse so I don't have to upgrade/learn *yet another* thing when my brain (and tasklist) is already full.

I can sympathise for the 'oh no, yet more to learn'...

However... for example for when you have lots of files in a directory, ReiserFS still offers very good performance compared to other filesystems... The rebalancing the B* trees and the flexible allocation of inodes are rather good also...

;-)

Martin

Right. Didn't want to push Matt into any debate.
I just didin't like the 'Hans Reiser is in jail' - excuse.

I had a recent download come down at 3200 bps(+-) However, the uploads are going at 50000+ bps. The way my provider works is usually the downloads are faster (?)

Before anyone freaks out, these dates are spread out a bit due to a lack of drivespace that I didn't catch it for a few days (machine was trying to download new work--and did, but only into RAM, apparently--but there was no room left on the drive causing "system fwrite" errors).

As with your post, I just wanted to show that upload/download speeds aren't an issue on this end at all. Other than the last few days of PEBOAK issues, I almost always have work. :)
