I already have a charity up an running called 'firststep'.. It exists without financial donations..(it's based upon the hopes, effort and work of qualified professionals that want the chance to give something back to their community..)

Tell us more about firststep.

Not sure what I can say. It is a very small project based upon an idea I had and made possible by educated friends and young people who just wanted to know more.

You can PM me if you like.

CNN have posted a followup story Help is on the way for Youssif which includes details of how to donate to the organisation which intends to help him.

What'll happen now is that that kid's parents will continue to have more children. Money donated will be used to support those extra new children instead of helping the burnt child.

Maybe, maybe not. If that is the case, at least people tried to help.
Hopefully the cosmos is not trying to reverse the charges.

No, the money donated is going to the Burn Center to pay for this childs treatment. This money isn't being donated to the parents.

Let's see: if those organizing/administrating the donation pay directly to an airline company for a round-trip ticket ... and the remainder of the money goes to the doctor(s) performing plastic surgery or whatever it is he/she/they will do ... your gloom and doom scenario occurs how?
Clyde, I cannot recall ever seeing a disagreeable post from you; I hope this one does not reflect some hidden bias.
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

What more can I say?

Thank You MB - for Your Concern . . .

see this also:
Editor's note: CNN agreed not to use the full names of the mother and son in this article due to concern for their safety

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Boy, 5, doused in gas, set on fire by masked men

Doctors told the family there is little more they can do to help Youssif. The family can't afford care outside Iraq

> any Donations from SETI Supporters (referrin' to ALL Crunchers) would be used to assist that particular family - in gettin' help for the boy "outside Iraq" - in other words - the monies would assist in gettin' the boy to the nearest burn center . . .

The family can't afford care outside Iraq

this Effort here @ SETI could help in THAT regard . . .

I will have to wait at least a month before I can donate.

What you do today you will have to live with tonight
