New studies of dust that form lifelike structures suggest that extraterrestrial life may not be carbon-based at all.

Also look up Prions for an alternative to DNA-based life...

Wow! That's quite interesting.

If this is indeed "life", I could see a couple of immediate interesting considerations.

1) Could this "type" of life evolve complex group behaviors by massing in large, organized numbers: similar to bee/ant colonies & large bird migrations? Could it lead to group behavior & group intellegence based on symbiotic dependencies within the group & the synergy of the combined individual life-forms?

2) These dust particles might also be comprised of differing ratios of other elements, some clouds carbon-rich, perhaps others, silicon etc. It is currently believed that Silicon could not be a viable basis for lifeforms as carbon, but under this new model for life, it appears that dust particles could get around some of these little problems.

Fascinating!

Reread what I typed: "non-DNA".

No mention of "not containing carbon".

See: Prions

a type of infectious agent composed only of protein.
