Looks like 5.27 (MB) has made it over here. One of my boxes just pulled it down and is using it.

Edit: I had just checked the app versions available (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php), saw 5.27 was installed for x86 windows and linux.. So I removed my app_info.xml file, did a project reset, and bingo, got the 5.27 client.

The only question now is are they splitting and feeding MB data.

LOL...

If history is any indication, the new ones are probably in the oven as we speaking. ;-)

Although I will probably run stock for awhile to collect new baseline data for my hosts.

Actually a part of Chicken was included in the basic source code. So a Lot of Things have happened in Seti Beta to get MultiBeam here...

So testing and improvment should follow in the not to far future...

now my only question is "where's the Chicken"

IIRC, it was stated they are already ready (can't find the post though) and just waiting for the 'Official' release before they are let loose on the public.

The post from Simon's site:

Hi folks,

Multibeam apps will move to the main SETI@Home project shortly. We have been working on a new app release for a while, and decided to wait until MB was rolled out so we wouldn't have two releases in quick succession.

In any case, whenever the project staff are ready to move Multibeam to main, our new release will follow it in quick succession (or be simultaneous, depending on any last-minute issues).

So keep an eye out on the main S@H boards as well as here, new apps should shortly be incoming.

Regards,
Simon.

I have build binaries for the new multibeam applications for HP-UX (11i V.1..V.3) on PARISC 32 bit, 64 bit and IA64. Till Stefan has notput them on his website, the binaries are available from my site.
Other platforms following asap...

Thanks, MajorKong, I have set my client to no new work to finish my last Chicken 5.17 WU's, and I'll then delete the app_info.xml and try to get some of the 5.27's. I'm still crunching 5.27's from Beta...

I just noticed something else. The two results that I have managed to download today had an initial replication of 2 results per workunit, not 3 like they were yesterday.

The good side: Since the quorum has been set to 2 for a few weeks, people have been complaining about the '3rd result' not being 'needed' for the science. This appears now to no longer be an issue, since the 3rd result is no longer generated unless it is needed.

The bad side: There goes 1/3 of the supply of results.

Well,

we're pretty much ready to release, it just depends on what multiplier finally becomes the new stock one.

On Beta, it used to be 3.81, on the main project, 3.35 (because MB WUs were thought to give less cr/h than enhanced ones).

Turns out, with some added chicken flavour, the new stock app is so much faster than before that the stock multiplier was decreased instead of increased - namely, to 2.8.

To contrast -

5.15 (stock app til now) - 100% cr/h
5.27 (new stock app?) - 83.6% cr/h
Beta MB apps - 113.7% cr/h

The forums are already erupting with indignant power crunchers.

Let's face it, they're the only ones who lose - people who use the stock app will not see their cr/h change much, they'll just process more WUs. Chances are, they'll never even notice it.

The real difference is that from now on the optimized apps will bring less gains over the stock ones. This is something our egos will just have to get to terms with ;o)

My RAC may plummet, but the science done still remains valid.

And THAT'S what counts.

Regards,
Simon.

The bad side: There goes 1/3 of the supply of results.

I don't think we'll be short of results. Due to the nature of the multibeam work unit, each 107 seconds of recording time at Arecibo will be split into 14 wu's instead of just one. The recorder records 14 separate tracks instead of just one. This allows 28 results to be split instead of two.
