My Nan was cool in her crimpolene pink trousers and nylon fruit patterned blouses. She wore her blue rinsed hair in a beehive. She loved to eat nougat but saved the fruity bits for me. She spat on her hanky to wipe my face clean. She would kiss me goodnight and wake me with sweet milky tea and biscuits. She collected me from school and would wag her finger at the bullies. She would stand with me for ages every time we went past the local toy shop. Lily Allen - Nan You're A Window Shopper... ... and I loved window shopping with you Nan. My Gran using KY Gel (lubricant) though? eeK! Not sure I want to think about that. I always wondered why she kicked me out of her bedroom every once in a while and put me to bed in the back bedroom where the stuffed aligator with the glass eyes and the big brown teddy bear lived. I only just realised my Grandparent's were probably being naughty. That is so nice. My Nan as a Woman, Gran, Mother and Lover. Nan put powder on her face and used to rest her soft cheek against mine. She smelt like blossoms. Anyone else have memories of their Grandparents? |

Oddly enough....my favorite memory of my Grandma is of her teaching me the finer points of eating Limberger Cheese....lol It's VERY smelly. But it has a very good flavor once you learn the trick of getting past the smell. :-) Air Cold, the blade stops; from silent stone, Death is preordained Calm Chaos Forums : Everyone Welcome |

A warm glow, a feeling of safety. Looking up in awe and wonderment. I can still remember the times I spent with my Grandfather, days out travelling the railways up and down the country, also the mischief we used to get up to. :o) My grandfather was a watchmaker & jewler. I used to sit for hours watching him in his shop repairing clocks and doing very inticate work. He made me a space on his bench for me to copy him (play) and gave me all the odd bits he could no longer use. I love the smell of old wood and fine oil. The one thing I remember most about my grandparents is that they found so much time to be with me. I loved going for walks along the river Cole with my Nan and aunte picking logan berries (like rasberries) late summer to make jam. I remember bouncing up and down on the seats in the train going to my Nan's caravan in Dawlish Warren. It was good to be small and bounce :o) |

All I have are bad memories of my grandparents. My fathers mother beating me with her cane for speaking without being spoken to. And my mother's mother hardly ever speaking to me, let alone having any interest in me. My other grandparents died before I was born. That is so horrid CR. Sorry. I took martial arts too. I never challenged my father with it though. I just wanted him to like me. My Nan was good to me. Others were not.

One day, I was about 6, I was staying with the grandparents on the farm. Watched as gramma quarter filled a bucket with(she made sure) nice luke-warm water. Watched her grab a matching bucket, into which she placed the other one. Wandered behind her as we made our way to the barn, and found where one of the barn cats had just littered a mess of kittens (12) Watched as Gramma oh so carefully chose the 4 smallest(runts), and took them out into the sunlight. Thought she was gonna wash em(being 6) Then the other pail came out, and was placed on top of them. Watched as water and all tumbled out of sight down a gopher hole. I FINALLY realized what was happening, as Gramma saw this she said *now now, if we don't do this, ALL of them will die, this way we still have 8. REAL life ain't pretty sometimes, and sometimes we need to make hard choices in order to survive THANK YOU GRAMMA !! :) like take off eh! to The Great White North |

One day, I was about 6, I was staying with the grandparents on the farm. I near drowned once when my father decided he could overcome my fear of water by throwing me into a pool 9 foot deep. I don't think I was more than 3 foot tall myself. I still hate deep water now. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually die like that :( I quite like the runts in the litter. They are the ones with the most interesting personalities. My grandparents were OK to me. I always assumed that anyone who had lived so long would have shed their ignorant beliefs and anxieties. I think I might have been wrong. |
