My hard drive suffered a hard crash. I had about 5 or 6 work units downloaded, with 2 in progress. When I replace the drive and reinstall BOINC is there anyway to get the server to re-download the same WUs or are they going to have to "expire"? Thanks for your answers... Frank Frank Raffa Supv. Probably not, unless you can recover at least the state and config files which were in the BOINC folder on the old drive and transfer them to the new drive. If you can recover all the files and subfolders intact, you may be able to recover up to the last checkpoint stored, depending on what was going on when the drive crashed, of course. Alinator |

Thanks. I doubt if I can recover the files, something rattles around inside. Another door chock for my collection. Frank Raffa Supv. Dispatcher FDNY Borough of Brooklyn www.FDNewYork.com |

This is unlikely to kick in, but there is code at the server to send missing tasks to the same machine. However, you would probably need to get client_state.xml and account_*.xml copied to the new machine in order for this to work. But since it appears that something in the HD broke and it is not just a couple of bad sectors, this seems a bit unlikely. I would just forget about it. The other person will just have to wait a little longer for the credit is all. The tasks will be reissued to someone else after they time out. BOINC WIKI |
