Was his singing that bad???

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Saying "this is America, not Afghanistan," a judge found a man not guilty of disorderly conduct for refusing to obey a Philadelphia police officer's request that he stop singing in a public park.

Anthony Riley, 20, had faced a three-month sentence after loudly singing "A Change is Gonna Come" in downtown Philadelphia in March. Greg Wilkinson, the arresting officer, said Riley was singing so loud his voice drowned out his police radio.

"All he had to do was lower his voice and this never would have happened," prosecutor William James said.

Witnesses testified Riley had asked the officer what law was restricting him from singing. Wilkinson responded he was the law.

When Riley asked whether he was still in America, Wilkinson replied: "This is Afghanistan," witnesses said.

The city is now reviewing what kinds of music should be allowed in its public parks.

I would rather my neighbours sing than play their TVs so loudly.

I spent some time in an Afghanistan refugee camp in Pakistan.. No one sung..

Only people who feel a little free sing.

The police officers should have just smiled and passed by..

It is a crazy world when we stop people from expressing their own sorrow or joy.

Singing is part of us..

Like they do when a car is parked in the lot vibrating the neighborhood with its big sub woofers expressing its 'freedom to annoy'... ;)

I am so glad I live in a country where the police are not above the law. (We can still arrest them if required...)

It's nice to be quite.

It would be nice to live somewhere where the police are visible. They used to patrol in pairs all over the UK at one time. Now you don't see any. I mean, who are the tourists going to ask for directions? Yes, and also to make you feel safe?

Last time I was in the UK, we were down to Margate for an airshow (which sucked, talk about a bunch of beater planes, someone at MoD really needed to liaise with DoD) and we met a bunch of cops.

When we went got fed up with Sopwith Camels and Fokker Dr. Is and went looking for a pub, two of them offered us a ride to one in their BMW police cruiser--that was a field day. Of course, it became a bit of spectacle for the patrons, watching the police drop two Americans off at the pub. Turned into a REAL bender, people were buying us drinks, and we kept reciprocating. Things got all out of hand, and all because of two of Britain's finest gave us a lift.
Cordially,
Rush

Ummm...I have an exceptionally loud stereo in my car...including 2 12" subwoofers that are rated at 900 watts each.

However...I don't dress like a " little boy ". Unless of course you feel that jeans and a t shirt are " little boy " clothes. :-)

By the way....just for the record...I am 37 years old and I still like my music loud.

Maybe I am mad but I still feel safe in the UK.

I have not been attacked, shot at or cut up..

Sometimes someone is rude to me but nothing I could not handle.

It's a relatively safe society 99% of the time.

There are always those that go beyond the pale but we can deal with them.

Youngsters of whatever age will always be naughty.

I don't live in a nice middle class area.

Who needs police to walk around when the majority know they should try and be better..

I do not feel safe because there are more police.. I feel safe when there is no threat.

I cruised with KM once. It wasn't THAT loud. :)
Then again, maybe my tolerance level is higher than a fair amount of people's?

What brand? When I sometime or another get money, I was thinking of going with 2x10". Not sure if I'd want 12s as I like tight bass rather than boomy bass... Currently I have a U.S. Acoustics 450w bridged driving a single Orion 12" (500w RMS rated) in a sealed box... The problem is it is coming in on speaker-level inputs due to the factory deck, so it has some extra distortion...

So, I also will need to be upgrading my Toyota factory deck. I had in mind Pioneer, Panasonic, or Alpine. Once I do that, I'd need to upgrade my door speakers too... I think I can fit 5-1/4" components in the front door, but not sure (they have 4" components now). Those are most likely going to be Infinity Kappa... The back ones look to be 4x6 plates, which Infinity has those too... The front door is going to be the tricky part...

...of course, this assumes that I still have the same car whenever I get around to this...

PM if you think it will be burdensome on the old fuddy duddies out here ;-)
