What happens if I accidently merge 2 PC´s (or more). That can easily happen if the PC´s have the same configuration (and you are not too smart or too fast).
Will all the PC´s still connect to Seti@home and get new units to work on - or will Seit@home stop sending units to some of the merged PC´s?

My guess is that it would get a new id number and life would go on.

The PC's need to have the same MAC address, I think...as it won't allow you to merge two PCs even with the same IP (127.0.0.1) and the same OS. (Linux seems to return 127.0.0.1 by default if behind a firewall. WinXP seems to return the local private address....)

You also cannot merge PCs with different OSes.

I have a system that moved from Windows to Linux and I can't merge it with anything. I also can't delete it.

I think it should work fine being merged. If you want to "unmerge" them, you should be able to do that by detaching/reattaching (make sure you have completed AND submitted all of your workunits before detaching!). You can probably also close BOINC, delete the computer ID number in the appropriate XML file, and then restart the program, forcing it to assign a new ID. I don't have BOINC installed at work anymore so I can't look this up unfortunately. Someone else can probably help in that regard.
