He reminds me of two guys that had songs in 1955: Lenny Dee (Plantation Boogie) and Chuck Miller (The House Of Blue Lights) but he couldn't be either of those because the picture is too recent. It was a great bit of boogie-woogie. I had it on a 45 single, along with 'Sadie's Shawl' on the b-side. It was on London records. I'll try to find a sample somewhere, but it's a bit rare. I see "Sadie's Shawl" by Bob Sharples, on London 1661. But the other side is not mentioned. I'll have to hear it to see if I remember it. It stayed on for fifteen weeks which was pretty good for a song that only got to #52 on October 27, 1956. It was popular at around the time of "Honky Tonk" by Bill Doggett, which I remember well, as a 12-year-old. By the way, since the record is "London" that reminds me that a lot of these songs were popular in Great Britain, as well, but at slightly different times. Another fine piano instrumental, but not exactly boogie-woogie, was "Portuguese Washerwomen" by Joe "Fingers" Carr which got to #19 on July 28, 1956. It was a pleasant memory. |
