You can get Chicken Soup 2.2B here It's optimized to crunch your WU's faster.

Einstein is a group like SETI is.

More specifically to what Philly said above, Chicken Soup is a phrase coined by the SETIzens around here that refers to an optimized SETI@Home application compiled by the folks at http://lunatics.at. I believe the "chicken" phrase came about because one of the fellas that code the optimized apps went by the name Chicken of Angor (real name is Simon). So people started calling it the Chicken app, or chicken soup.

Einstein is a science project that you can attach to, just like SETI@Home. You are aware that BOINC allows you to connect to multiple projects and isn't just an upgrade to the old SETI@Home, right? :-p

Yea Yea, I once added 2 other projects, think i can remember that they were PrimeGrid and Chess960? Kept on going over the Deadlines for my WU's, so i decided to remove them, thanks any way!

Einstein is a separate project. You would need to attach to it, if interested.

Visit their site @ http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ and see if you are interested.

... went by the name Chicken of Angor (real name is Simon). So people started calling it the Chicken app, or chicken soup.

I thought it was more a corruption of Chicken Co-op (cooperative group) -> Chicken Coup (chickens enclosure, and/or "brilliantly executed stratagem; a triumph") -> Chicken Soup (as in a mixture or what is eaten) ...

Regardless, the optimisations of both the code and the algorithms have become a science and engineering fest in their own right!

A Journal paper is long overdue!!

Well, I suppose that could be true. From my perspective and viewing these boards, what I stated is what I thought to be true anyway.

But you're right, regardless of how the name came to be, it is certainly a good thing for all.

Chicken of Angnor is Simon's handle over on the KWSN (The Knights Who Say Ni!) team. That's where the Chicken part came from. I think I started referring to the optimizing collective working with Simon as being part of the 'Chicken Coop'. Somebody before me started referring to Chicken Soup.

To make things clear for Luke, Simon's (Chicken's) cruncher crunches Seti, not Einstein. When I crunch Einstein, I get only about 40 percent of the credits that I do when crunching Seti with Simon's cruncher. Simon and other developers have optimized his (and their) cruncher to calculate more than twice as fast as unoptimized (or slightly optimized) crunchers. I don't know the story at Einstein but I can guess that its cruncher is not optimized. I haven't tried any other projects but can guess that none of their crunchers is optimized.

Akos over there is working on optimising the "hot loops" in there that will then be rolled out as the standard science application.

Don't know whether it is a work in progress or if already done.

You first shut down the Boinc Manager. Then "copy" the 3 files from the extracted "files to install" folder and put them in the BOINC/projects/setiathome file.

Now you can restart BOINC and you will see in your messages that BOINC sees the app_info.xml;using anonymous platform, now you will notice the increase in speed for the WU's to be crunched.....

Work in progress... There are some substantial bugs involving cross-platform validation, most notably Linux vs. Windows, with Linux usually getting the raw deal because of the host ratio over there is heavily in favor of Windows. The validation issue doesn't happen all the time. It seems to be with specific frequency ranges.

That being said though, the cross-platform issue of "not getting credit" is only the volunteer-visible portion of the problem. From what has been said, any time a cross-platform problem happens, all of the results are actually likely to be invald, it just happens that there is a strongly matched pair between with one OS...and the other OS apparently is not even weakly similar.

Anyway, performance is better on AMD/Windows now, but because of not knowing if results that I turn in will have to be redone, and the curiosity of how high of a RAC I can sustain here, I'm not doing much over there now. I have one result left to do that's going to take about 21.4 hours for 425.70 credit, or about 19.9 cr/hr... Comparable Linux machines get about 22-23cr/hr, so there's still a speed difference between the Linux and Windows apps...

I think he may be asking first how to unzip it.
Download 7zip and install. Very troublefree program, works on almost all compression formats.

Give it some time. You haven't even returned a result yet which indicates you ran the Coop on it.

Double check in your task manager and insure the seti program that is running starts with KWSN.........., and not the stock program.

You 'may' have to reboot to make the Chicken Soup 'hot' :)
