I've made a personal record, I've reached 100 RAC with my one and only AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1400MHz, 512 RAM)! :) With Chicken app. v.2.2, and PC running approx. 12 hours per day! :) Never thought a PC like this can reach 100 RAC with half a day being switched on... :) P.S.: Sorry I haven't posted this in the milestones section, but I considered that it's not a real milestone, but a PC-performance benchmark result... :D Regards, Maverick. My Athlon XP 2200+ with only 256MB RAM is currently at 89.22 RAC. I do run 3 main projects on it, all at ~33.33% resource share. I'm hoping to see 100 RAC on SETI Beta in the next few days. It's at 80.54 with a lot of pending results currently. Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

How much hours a day do you have that Athlon 2200+ up and running? I'm asking, because SETI only needs 64 MB RAM, and if you have that amount, the speed only depends on the CPU and the bus speeds... Just want to get an approx. comparison... :) Btw, your floating and integer speeds on the Athlon are quite near to mine...:) "The Truth Is Out There!" (X-Files) |

Just want to get an approx. comparison... :) It's usually crunching for BOINC 24/7 (33% SETI main,33% SETI Beta, 33% Rosetta). My average uptime is about 6 or 7 days. I only re-boot if things start running slowly or if a software update needs it. I did notice that a little bit of your RAC is due to your Pentium 4 machine, your Athlon is currently on 98.12 , it should break 100 very soon. Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

My Intel was a school computer, it had deep freeze, so it's not crunching anymore, soon the RAC will be at 0, and I'll delete that host... :) It may be combined, but at the end of this day not anymore, 'cause I currently crunch a halfly finished WU, which is about 62 credits worth, so by the end of this day, it'll surely be 102 RAC or so for my Athlon... :) It's a home PC, and the energy is quite expensive here in Romania, so I simply can't leave it to run 24 hours a day... It's running approx. 12 hours during daytime, but every day, 7 days a week... :) Oh, and do you run optimised cruncher v.2.2? Because your crunching times for an average 62-Credit-WU are at about 20 000 seconds, nearly the same times as my box produces... :) [Edit] In this moment, Athlon has 102.42 RAC, it seems that I had a pending credit somewhere... :D "The Truth Is Out There!" I turn my monitor off when not in use, to save power, have a nice quiet fan too. My PC has a TV Tuner built in too, so I don't have a separate power bill for a TV :-) BTW, you can see a lot of information about other peoples computers by clicking their name. Click a Result ID to see if they use Optimized apps etc. Keith |

... Mine is UK Standard, it's quite old too. 3DFX AGP combined display adapter and TV tuner. There are many different solutions available http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_tuner_card is probably a good place to start looking. |

I've thought abut the TV tuner too, what did you end up using and $$$ if you don't mind sharing. Philadelphia, you can get a TV tuner built in many video cards. Try looking at New Egg. Here is the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048&Configurator=&Subcategory=48&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=tv+tuner to the search results I did on thier site for TV Tuner. Two of my computers are "HP Entertainment Centers" They are great for recording programs just like TIVO and you can even burn DVD's of the programs. I'm an F1 fan and don't always get up in time to watch the races live, typically at 4 am my time. Depending on what else you want on your video card the cost is around $70. Also search for video capture cards. They cost a little as $20. If your happy with your video card then this option gives you many of the same features. |
