A most intriguing car of it's time was this one: The Amphicar:  I was about twelve years old when I saw my first one and wanted one ever since but never got one! I saw it in the parking lot of a large department store in Lakeland Florida. The person that owned it must have worked there because it was there every time we went by.  And yes, you could water ski behind one!  I remember an episode on the TV show "Candid Camera" where a lady pulled up to a boat landing on the east bank of the Mississippi River and asked for directions for a location directly across the lake (visible from the landing she was at). When told that it was straight across the river but she would have to drive about 20 miles down the road to cross the bridge and drive back up the other side of the river, she asked "is that the place right there across the river?" When they answered yes, she kindly thanked the gentleman and to their surprise drove straight into the water!
