I have 1 particular computer that appears to net be downloading any work from Seti. It was running Chicken's optimized client, but while I'm trying to track this problem, I've reverted back to the original. I've also tried reseting the project, but to no avail. I'm running windows firewall and boinc is already on the exceptions list. After my last reset this is the message log I got. *********** start log ************ 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.7 for windows_intelx86 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9] 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Memory: 511.29 MB physical, 1.22 GB virtual 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Disk: 143.84 GB total, 76.77 GB free 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|climateprediction.net|URL: http://climateprediction.net/; Computer ID: 335905; location: home; project prefs: default 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|Predictor @ Home|URL: http://predictor.scripps.edu/; Computer ID: 170237; location: home; project prefs: default 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 1594096; location: work; project prefs: default 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|SETI@home Beta Test|URL: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/; Computer ID: 2776; location: home; project prefs: default 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Reading preferences override file 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 255.65MB 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 460.16MB 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|climateprediction.net|Restarting task hadcm3lbm_aui0_25275355_0 using hadcm3lb version 515 6/26/2007 4:11:33 AM|climateprediction.net|Restarting task hadcm3pbb_aghv_05762014_0 using hadcm3 version 515 6/26/2007 4:11:44 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 6/26/2007 4:11:44 AM|SETI@home|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 6/26/2007 4:11:59 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 6/26/2007 4:11:59 AM|SETI@home|Deferring communication for 11 sec 6/26/2007 4:11:59 AM|SETI@home|Reason: requested by project 6/26/2007 4:12:36 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 6/26/2007 4:12:36 AM|SETI@home|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 6/26/2007 4:12:55 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 6/26/2007 4:12:55 AM|SETI@home|Deferring communication for 11 sec 6/26/2007 4:12:55 AM|SETI@home|Reason: requested by project 6/26/2007 4:13:16 AM|SETI@home|Resetting project 6/26/2007 4:13:26 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 6/26/2007 4:13:26 AM|SETI@home|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 6/26/2007 4:13:36 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 6/26/2007 4:13:36 AM|SETI@home|Deferring communication for 11 sec 6/26/2007 4:13:36 AM|SETI@home|Reason: requested by project 6/26/2007 4:13:39 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file arecibo_181.png 6/26/2007 4:13:39 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file sah_40.png 6/26/2007 4:13:58 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Finished download of file sah_40.png 6/26/2007 4:13:58 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Throughput 135 bytes/sec 6/26/2007 4:13:58 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file sah_banner_290.png 6/26/2007 4:14:06 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Finished download of file arecibo_181.png 6/26/2007 4:14:06 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Throughput 1945 bytes/sec 6/26/2007 4:14:06 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file sah_ss_290.png 6/26/2007 4:14:07 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Finished download of file sah_banner_290.png 6/26/2007 4:14:07 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Throughput 3112 bytes/sec 6/26/2007 4:14:17 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Finished download of file sah_ss_290.png 6/26/2007 4:14:17 AM|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Throughput 3396 bytes/sec 6/26/2007 4:18:21 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 6/26/2007 4:18:21 AM|SETI@home|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 6/26/2007 4:18:26 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 6/26/2007 4:18:26 AM|SETI@home|Deferring communication for 11 sec 6/26/2007 4:18:26 AM|SETI@home|Reason: requested by project ************ end log ************* It's appearing that there's no work available, but I think it's been like this since that major outage. Ive had the same, I had a few wu's cached, then they drained down untill I ran out of work last night. I posted on it about ten minutes ago, hit retry communications once more and it downloaded some work, I notice its asked for more work since and is back to those messages, as is another machine albeit still crunching. |

I may be incorrect but it doesn't appear you're running the current version of chicken soup. 2.2b vs 2.2 I doubt that is the issue though, more of an fyi. |

This could be blocking your SETI@Home work. Give it a while. |

My bet based on these logs is that CPDN is in EDF, and downloading work will make the CPDN task too late - therefore, it will not download work from anywhere until CPDN is no longer in time trouble (could take finishing the CPDN task). O boy... CPDN looks like its going to be crunching for a loooong time. It's only got a 20% share, but it says it's going to take something like 1945 hours to complete. Yikes! So seti won't download until CPDN is done? Bummer, I guess I should have been paying more attention, heh? William D. Gagliardi |

As you have discovered, on single CPU system it's not a good idea to be stingy with CPDN's resource share. It will start sharing again when Boinc thinks it's got a shot at meeting the due date which could take some time. My understanding is that CPDN does accept work that is past the due date, but Boinc as no way of knowing this. In any case, I'd look at increasing CPDN share to reduce the problem in the future, if you wish to continue crunching that project. |
