sorry..........
It means the manager has crashed and is not longer managing the projects. Restart Boinc and/or reboot the affected computer.

I know if you have suspended BOINCs work you get a white dot with with two upward lines..

I have never seen a red dot..

Check and see what your settings are in the "activity menu"..

EDIT: Oops. Solution was given whilst I was messing around posting.. See 'msattler' post below....... Useful to know.

I don't think so.

It means the BOINC manager is unable to connect to your network, usually because your proxy settings are incorrect, or there is a problem with your network so that it cannot connect (when your settings are asking it to connect).

I see it when the Boinc manager has crashed. May mean that it is no longer connected to the local host. My rigs are all single user installations, not as a service. In my case, it usually means the OC has gone awry and it's time for a reboot. The network connectivity you are talking about may trigger it as well.

BINGO!

It means that the Boinc Manager is no longer connected to the boinc application... (for whatever reason)

Open Boinc Manager then kill the boinc process, you'll see what I mean... ;)

It has both meanings. I see it every time I lose connection, and today when I booted up the manager crashed for some reason unknown to me, where it said there were no projects attached. I just exited and restarted and all is fixed. Same with the connection, as soon as the connection is up again, everything are fixed...
