Could someone explain to me how this works and how I can install it, or steer me in the right direction. Thank you. |

Hi Sister, Optimization only means that someone created a version of the science app (the piece of SW responsible from crunching the WUs) which is tailored for specific platforms, like Intel or AMD. To grab one just go to Simon's web site (one of those guys I was talking about) and grab the version which is best suited for your machine. The instructions are in the downloaded file, but if you prefer, he also offers a windows installer that will test and choose the best (fastest) version to your computer. Regards, Wander |

is that a good idea right now ? I thought there are problems downloading WU etc from the servers ..? |

is that a good idea right now ? I thought there are problems downloading WU etc from the servers ..? I don't see any harm in using optimized apps even during an outage like this. I think very people switched back to the stock app when the servers configuration prevented DL for those using the app_info.xml file. One way or another, one must DL a WU to crunch, either with stock or optimized app. Granted, the optimized will crunch them faster and require more WUs, and more WUs mean more DLs and more strain in the servers, but only a small percentage of the users are aware of the optimized app and even fewer actually use them, so I think the impact is negligible :) Regards, Wander |

SETI is an open source project (one of the few), and like the idea people can optimize the code. In fact the SETI team has used some of those enhancements when creating their last sets of code. It's better for the project because they get some great ideas from others. It speeds up the processing for you. Even though credits are "worthless", the competition aspect many people enjoy. So if you do optimize and like to compete a little, it'll help those scores. Enjoy crunching. Some day we may be able to prove other life exists (existed) outside our little mud ball here. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

sorry, think I'm being miss-understood, I thought you couldn't get new WU from servers with optimised apps ..... sorry. |

sorry, think I'm being miss-understood, I thought you couldn't get new WU from servers with optimised apps ..... sorry. Communication is never a smooth process. "Static" on the channel happens all the time, so no need to apologize :) Regards, Wander |

I want to thank each and everyone of you for your kind assistance and insight. I think for the time being I shall wait before venturing any further, until such time as I feel more comfortable making major adjustments to the program. |
