The optimized app is fine. All my PCs are using one and have been sporadically getting work. I used the instructions at the beginning of this thread: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=39636

Well, almost everything is back to normal for me tonight...
I had a phase where one linux client could upload and not report, while the other one could report but not upload. The nth restart seemed to fix it, though could also be as a result of seti server twiddling...
Now the only outstanding machine is a W2K behind NAT that could get work and report but has been stuck trying to upload one result all night, while it uploaded another one.
23/05/2007 04:59:52	[file_xfer] Started upload of file 11fe05aa.10139.18304.184644.3.120_1_0
23/05/2007 05:02:54	Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
23/05/2007 05:02:54	[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of 11fe05aa.10139.18304.184644.3.120_1_0: http error
23/05/2007 05:02:54	Backing off 1 hr 8 min 18 sec on upload of file 11fe05aa.10139.18304.184644.3.120_1_0
23/05/2007 05:02:56	Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.

The progress shows 90% of the result is uploaded in the first second then maybe a few more bytes get through over the next couple of minutes before timing out. This is silly because I know the servers are up and performing well. Perhaps the router at seti has taken a dislike to masqueraded IP?

Not sure where the logic is, but it is elusive. All the other 3 machines are now fine at last, (all machines with app_info.xml renamed.)

I see a couple of things that make no sense... Matt has posted many times they are taking old stuff offline (SUN) and migrating to Nix... not to meniton issues with getting old Sun code to compile under NIX...

So while everyone is frustrated with the Server Issues, the Seti Staff has been very patient and listened to what people are saying and working as fast as they can... If anyones wants I have a "Dead Mule" that you can "rent" to "Flog" it to make it run faster (frustration)... Progress takes time, Seti Beta spent over a year getting you Seti Enhanced... MultiBeam and Astropulse (Beta and Alpha respectively) are in progress...

As Eric stated, he spent time on the phone with Blurf this morning (Thank You Blurf, for relaying information that is helping)... I spent over a half hour this evening talking to Eric about Seti Beta issues (including an Astropulse Result that Successfuly completed)... What You Say, is seen and relayed pointing to specific things... A few people can call and do when they see things. There are more people watching and helping than most realize... They spend a lot of time doing that!

I guess the bottom line is that a "Lot of People Care!" They are not on the Seti payroll, they do provide feedback that makes it easier for the Seti Team... "WE" are here to Find ET!

Please, as things start calming down lets find ET!

I concur with Pappa on this. We have to be patient. I have crunched for SETI for nearly seven years, and they have always gotten things back up and running smoothly. We now have servers and code that have run to the end of their life span. I am very thankful that Eric et al have been able to keep things running as well as they have. SETI needs our help to keep going. They need hardware, software, and money to keep things running. Instead of yelling at them we should be trying to help them in any way we can. I for one have not been in a position to help out yet as I don't have the type of hardware they need and am short on funds myself but when I get into better position you can bet the first thing I am going to do is to make a donation to this cause!

What you do today you will have to live with tonight

The message at 10:34:51 is misleading. I requested an update of SAH since there were 3 results waiting for u/l in the Transfers tab. OK, the earliest one will expire is May 31, so that's not a problem, still . . . .

I asked on another forum and I'll ask here as well; how do I reduce the number of failing u/l attempts? Every 3 days was suggested. I'd be happy with twice a day. But in the current crisis (?) everyone banging the servers is doing no good. I have an always on connection, so that's not a problem, but neither do I want to contribute to what is effectively a DDOS on SAH.

Where do I find the parameters to do half day or every day or even every other day connections?

If you are using anonymous platform by necessity, the only option is to join a second project that has an app that runs on your platform.

Unfortunately SETI is the only opensource BOINC project that I know of. Meaning that when you have to use anonymous platform by necessity (because you've got some "alien" platform, as I do), it's pretty much "SETI or nothing"...

If only other projects were a bit less stubborn wrt opensourcing their code :P

Thanks for your efforts in trying to bring everything back to normal anyway!

First off. Thanks to the guys for all the very hard work on getting the systems
back up and running normally for the average user.
Sun Micro. This will be remembered and rewarded in a very positive way.
Eric, Matt, Carl and everyone in the LAB how can we reward you guys.

Steve

How did my name get into this:-)
Hey, I do not work at S@H, although I would gladly do so.
But I still think that a present for the guys that DO work there is a splendid idea. I still think that sending some money to someone living close by who can walk up to them with a lardy big kegg of brewski would say it all.

Hey Pappa! Aren't you close?

Not quite. ;-)

But I'm sure if you really want to give the guys a round (omgang)(kegg), it can be arranged. ;-D

Take a look at these pics.

Yepp, I am sure. I've even started a thread about it over at number crunching to get it started:-)
I have pledged to send the money for a big flak med öl:-) And I have also asked if more people would like to send other party paraphernalia!

I'm getting the no work msg also, along with int server err's, for the last three hours. This is my early morning check.

Andy

Same here..
tried with optimized (chicken) app, with or without app_info.xml, installing as a service or not, with boinc version 5.8.16 and/or 5.4.9 but that is of no help, all that i got from berkeley is

Http: Internal server error
or
no work from project
M.

I detached/attached because of app.xml problem and that Bonic wasn't asking for work from seti.
Since then all I get is HTTP internal server error

I still haven't touched my computers and I've downloaded units today, the last wuid=130466093 was at 17:18 UTC.
And yes I have had lots of server/HTTP errors and no work from project msgs.

just a note..I delete the 3 chicken files...then detach/attach to get rid of the ghost WU's..then I usually have to hit reset project to get a download of WU's...then stop BOINC...and hit restore from the recycle bin...then restart BOINC...to stop further ghost WU's from downloading...I have taken to putting no new tasks in SETI until my WU's are finished..just my thoughts..

have the time to mess with it...
