No virus - the thread is effectivly about some cheap (or free) virus checker flagging a trojan in a WU.

You get what you pay for.

fairy tale!

There isn't a Virus in a WU.

Even when 100 threads will be opened, this fact will not change.

Most probably : just wrong alert or missbehaviour of the used tool.

Rule: use 3 different scanners from different companies, all 3 must "alarm" independently, then might perhaps it's worth to take a closer look.

don't play with the word virus, just to put it here.

Basti,

kind regards

Ric

Correct me if I'm wrong but before a virus can infect your pc it needs to be executed. I believe, again correct me if I'm wrong, WU are just data files and don't get executed.

That is correct.

Microsoft has blurred the execute part in their effort to make things "easier"...

and the class of things that "execute" is larger, but it has to be a script or compiled binary file.

Data files, in and by themselves cannot infect anything ...

I think it's highly unlikely but doesn't anyone remember the buffer overrun exploit? To those who haven't - it means under certain circumstances a virus can be passed on via data.

Still I hope the SETI crew check for such things if it's appropriate?
