Is the work scheduler in 5.8.15 messed up up or is it just my boinc install thats messed up as it keeps requesting work from project with negative LTD just to be told it cant have any work as it wont finish it and still has work from main project.

Hi Nobodi,

what is your resource share between the projects (can be found on the projects tab in advanced view)? The numbers you gave us indicates a high number for Seti and/or low numbers for einstein/rosetta.

The allowed computing time for each project is calculated as a fraction on the sum of all projects recource shares. So if Seti e.g. is set to 100 and einstein/rosetta are set to 50 each (makes a total of 100+50+50 = 200), seti gets 50% of computing time (100/200 = 0.5) and einstein/rosetta 25% each (50/200 = 0.25).

If this doesn't help, could you post your resource share settings here?

Regards
Andy

Seti@home 100
Eienstein@home 2
Rosetta@home 1

The old version of Boinc that I used before wouldn't get any work from either Rosetta or Eienstein unless it had a positive LTD and would go into EDF to finish any work it had from either then not get anymore till it either ran out of work or had a positive LTD.

The work scheduler has changed in some ways, so I guess BOINC doesn't even fetch work from a project if BOINC thinks, that a work unit can't be finished due to it's deadline. But probably someone else (JM7?) can explain the new work fetch policy better than me.

But you should be able to get work from rosetta/einstein again, if you raise their resource shares a little bit. Assuming, you only want to have one work unit from these projects at time, setting both einstein and rosetta to 10 or even 20 should work fine (don't forget to update these projects in BOINC manager after you made your changes on the web side ;-)).

Rosetta is still using code (or it keeps getting put back) that incorrectly for current versions of the client uses the resource fraction to determine that work will not be completed on time. Complain to the project about this. The current BOINC client does not have this problem.

I'm begining to wonder if there is a bigger picture going on here.. If I read across various boards and posts, I'm starting to see a trend perhaps. There seems to me to be a disproportionate number of complaints about problems cropping up since folks started using version 5.8.15. I wonder if this is just coincidence or is there an underlying problem with this version. I started running it about 2 wks ago and now have no end of issues popping up. I also am aware that a lot of changes have been going on at Berkeley, but they have always been going on...this just seems odd to me.
