Hello Masters!! I Have been a SETI user since Aud 2002. I ran the old version of the tool where the results ware only incerimented after you finish a WU. But since I started using the BOINC 4.15 (what I see in the Help>About) I have worked about 50 WUs. However, my profile now shows only 29!! I discovered this some time back and started copying the results on to excel file. I have one such file where I have 47 results. But when I try to find more information on Result ID or Workunit ID it does not show any information. I have now stoped the processing for Feb 27th. I want to know more on this. Please giude me. Hello Masters!! And the numbers will continue to go down, and up as you have more units waiting for credits, this is a database function. You are NOT losing units. There are a ton of units returned and sent out every day by Berkeley. For any database to have to remember and track and access all those indefinately is not manageable. Units that have had the credits granted and are considered "completed" by the Project are moved to a seperate database for long term storage. They are NOT deleted, can you imagine a Scientist deleting something from a Science Project? "Oh sorry that data was deleted and we can no longer prove that the Dinosaurs ever happened", YEAH RIGHT! It is just part of the very complicated World of database management for almost half a million Seti users. |

Hello Masters!! I Ran Seti@home a few years ago on my windows PC and you had a running account of every work unit completed and it was easy to find where you where in the pecking order no matter how many or few you had completed. You can only find this out now if you are in the top 9999 so new members will take years if ever to find if they are staying near the bottom of the ratings or steadily climbing. Also, the old seti lost your work units if you changed phone providers and consequently e-mail address as you had to correspond via the set up address. I lost thousands of work units through this. Now my health is improving and I am back to using computers again, I decided a few weeks ago to try helping Seti again by installing onto my mac-mini. New start.... New Computer and hopefully no more Blue Screens and regular reinstallations of everything. Bazilbrush Alien Pet Lover |

I Ran Seti@home a few years ago on my windows PC and you had a running account of every work unit completed and it was easy to find where you where in the pecking order no matter how many or few you had completed. Thank for coming back!!!! Things have changed, mostly for the better, some not so much. The software can be a bit trickier to get up and running, but there are plenty of people that can help if you run into trouble, just ask. As for the credits, that is a major change. No more one unit equals one credit. Too much opportunity ofr people ot cheat, and soo many different Project to work for ,each having different sized workunits. That means if you crunch for Seti you could get 35 credits for a unit, this is not an average, just a number, While for Climate Prediction you oculd get 200 credits for a workunit. But the Climate unit could take 12 months to run while the Seti unit only took 6 hours. Hardly fair to give them only one credit for 12 months of work while here in Seti you also got one credit for only 6 hours of work. The way we get credit had to change with Boinc. Now several people are all sent the exact same unit and when you and I return our units they are compared against the other peoples returns for "statiscally significant" numbers. The Boinc Wiki ahs alot of info on this and many other things Boinc related. I do not have a link on this computer but it is around. I found it http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Main_Page |

The project website itself only has limited statistics. But there are ‘third party’ and team sites with much more comprehensive details: try the “Cross-project statistics†links in the “Work done†section of your Account page. For example, here you are in BOINCstats; as of today’s “dump†from the project it shows you in the 216,946th spot but climbing several thousand places per day. Keep it up! |
