I've just noticed over on the Server status page that all the splitters are now on 2003 workunits. I re-joined SETI in January and have had a mixture of 2000 and 2003 units for the last few weeks. Does this mean all the 2000 WUs are finished, or is it just co-incidence? |

Moved to number crunching. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I've just noticed over on the Server status page that all the splitters are now on 2003 workunits. Hi Keith, AFAIK, there is no particular order in which the tapes are processed. The last I heard, the tapes that we're crunching now contain data that were too noisy or otherwise unusable for the old SETI app (non-enhanced). Right now we're testing the new Multibeam WUs in SAH Beta, which uses fairly more recent data (late 2006). Regards, Wander |

I've just finished my last WU from 2000. No more have shown up over the last few days, and the splitters are all working on 2003 units. |

I've just noticed over on the Server status page that all the splitters are now on 2003 workunits. Hi Keith, Glad I could help. About beta, Eric found a problem in the data recorded by Multibeam receiver, generating hundreds of unusable WU. He's making changes to the splitter to fix that, but it's anyone's guess as to when we'll have work again. In the meantime, my Beta cruncher is working for SAH Main as well. Regards, Wander |

As long as we're crunching data from the old one-element receiver, I can't see why there wouldn't be more 2000, or even 1998, data left to crunch. It goes back that far, and I don't remember Matt saying that he had stacked those old tapes in order. I rather think he had stacked (or gently tossed) them randomly. But it makes no difference. It's just whenever the hardworking staff achieves the goal of sending us Alfa data. Problems always turn up and the staff is coping with them in the best way. |

This is from 2004, but the third picture shows the shelf next to Matt's desk where he keeps the "uncrunched" SETI tapes. One can imagine new tapes going on to the shelf, tapes being pulled from the shelf to be split, and tapes on the bottom/rear staying there for a while. Especially since there is no compelling reason to crunch "in order." ... and there is much more about this in other threads here and there. |

I found this old thread from last year that has lots of useful information, including a couple of posts by Matt Lebofsky. It made interesting reading. I also discovered that the old classic site is archived. One of the interesting pages is this one. Is there an equivalent page for BOINC SETI? |
