Hello

Today I´ve seen my first invalid result with Chicken 2.2. You can look here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=479412464

This happend the first time. But I´ve seen that the speed of my CPU is shown false. Somebody could explain this?

Interesting to me is that all of Invalid results from new Chicken client 2.2 are with more then 9 Spikes in result:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=475228484 26 Spikes
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=475660629 21 Spikes
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=477728673 30 Spikes
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=479659426 13 Spikes
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=479659481 9 Spikes
I think the problem is related with them...

I have been getting a lot of those lately. Seems all my computers get units that everyone but me gets credit. It has been happening to me since before 2.2 others have posted about it but I have yet to see a reasonable explanation. My brand new Laptop gets them and it has never been overclocked.

I searched my results for anything similar, but I didn't find anything. Could this problem be related in any way to the issues discussed in the Validate Errors - please post them thread? Did you experienced any connection problem during the UL/report process for those WU? You could ask Eric to revalidate them, just in case. Just a though.

Regards,
Wander

You can ask for units to be revalidated? How?

Hi hiamps,

This started a few weeks ago when kryten was failing on a daily basis. If you read the first post on that thread I indicated, you'll see that because kryten handles UL, DL and validation, they suspected that its constant problems were resulting in some incorrect invalid WUs, so Pappa asked us to post any suspect WU so Eric would flag them to validation again. I think most of them got validated (and credits ;) )after this second try.

I understand that kryten did had some problems again during this weekend, that's why I raised the possibility. But please note that those WU only appeared in the early hours of the outages or when the system was recovering from one.

If you're going to post your WUs, please post only VALIDATION ERRORS. Computation Errors are something completely different. And when you post, make them a hyperlink using the URL BBCode tag, just to make Eric's job easier. HTH.

Regards,
Wander

invalid result

Nope. That was a “Success” even though it was invalid. The “Validation error” will appear on the result listing under “Outcome”, not on the result page. I haven’t seen any for a while.

P.S. Captain Future just posted this example from the Beta project; three out of four results for that WU.

@Odysseus and hiamps,

As Odysseus pointed out, Capt Future's example is what I meant. However, I am a little puzzled to see so many Invalid results reported in such a short period of time, specially when the project was having problems with kryten (again).

Just a thought to the validation errors:

People should stop overclocking the Core 2 Duo as hell.

The Core 2 Duo takes it well, but it starts to produce errors in the FPU.
The problem is not obvious in normal system operation, but seriously interferes floating point operations. All overclockers should at least do a 24 hours test run with prime95 ( http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm ), to ensure flawless operation.

Quote from the ReadMe:
BACKGROUND

Today's computers are not perfect. Even brand new systems from major
manufacturers can have hidden flaws. If any of several key components such
as CPU, memory, cooling, etc. are not up to spec, it can lead to incorrect
calculations and/or unexplained system crashes.

Overclocking is the practice of increasing the speed of the CPU and/or
memory to make a machine faster at little cost. Typically, overclocking
involves pushing a machine past its limits and then backing off just a
little bit.

For these reasons, both non-overclockers and overclockers need programs
that test the stability of their computers. This is done by running
programs that put a heavy load on the computer. Though not originally
designed for this purpose, this program is one of a few programs that
are excellent at stress testing a computer.

Like this test tool, the new client pushes the CPU to the limit!
Aloha, Uli
