Well done to all the people in the Coop on releasing yet another great flavor of Soup. I've been running it for a few hours now and the initial indications show an approx performance increase of 10%-12% on AMD X2's for similar AR WU's using the generic SSE2 2.2 version. It shaved about 800-900 seconds off a 61.2 credit WU. On my P4 2.8 Northwood Laptop the effect seems to be more dramatic with an apparent performance increase of around 25% using the SSE2 Intel Version 2.2 . It shaved off approx 3700 seconds on similar AR WU's with a 62.4 credit value. Well done to the Coop...!!! |

I just installed the 2.2 SSE version and noticed it seems to be retardedly faster then the 2.0 version. If the WU's check out once returned, I sure hope Chicken considers compiling the 2.2 apps for linux too. Even at a 5% speedup, my P3's would win nearly an hour. |

Using the MMX version its about a 10-20% increase for me. BoB Do you Good Search for Seti@Home? http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=888957 Or Good Shop? http://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=888957 |

Some of my first returns are in and validated. I am running Seti on a C2D. I was using the v2.0 P4 SSE3 (because of validation problems). I am now running the v2.2 C2D SSSE3. There is approximately a 7% to 16% increase in speed with the v2.2 app. (vs. the v2.0) and the WUs are validating as strongly similar. In fact, some of my returned WUs have been chosen as cannonical. Well done! to all who contributed to this version! Now we just need to get the multi-beam data onto Seti main. |

I stayed with the 1.4 version and looking at my results done, with v 2.2, last night, not sure that it is as quick as previously. Will keep it under review at moment and wait for some VLARs and dreaded 58.7's to make final decision. Andy P.S. this is on PM and C2D. |

I did the pre-release testing on the core 2, and the new SSSE3 app is MUCH faster on the 58.7s than 1.41. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I'm lost in the woods now... (Quite common, on the other hand, just ask my wife!) Specifically, I don't know which of the new versions to use. My processor is identified as a Intel P4 660 (3,6 GHz) "Prescott-2M", with SSE3 instruction set. Can anyone tell me? |

Intel P4 660 (3,6 GHz) "Prescott-2M", with SSE3 instruction set. For Intel CPUs only. Go here - the Chicken Coop - home of the KWSN optimized Seti science applications. Click on Downloads (upper left on that page) Click on Code Revision 2.2 Click either SSE2-Intel P4 or SSE3-Intel P4/PD (Prescott CPUs seem to run better/faster with the SSE2, it's your choice) Click the download link. You will need 7-zip (also on that download page) to extract the archive. If you don't already have a compatible archive extractor, 7-zip is an excellent one, it's perfectly safe and it's easy to install and use. STOP BOINC! Stop and exit the Boinc Manager and\\or stop the Boinc service. This step, stopping Boinc, is optional but may prevent file copying conflicts. Extract the KWSN Seti archive and put all the files into your Boinc Seti folder, by default the folder is C:\\Program Files\\Boinc\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu, your folder may be in a differenct place, it will be wherever you installed it. When you put the files into the folder you need to overwrite when necessary to replace any older files. Restart Boinc or restart the Boinc service and the new KWSN v2.2 Seti app will now be used for crunching. Enjoy! |

The instructions mention "restart the service" if we are running Boinc as a service. How do I do that without restarting the system? Thanks to all for producing faster-flowing soup. |

The instructions mention "restart the service" if we are running Boinc as a service. How do I do that without restarting the system? The simplest way is to go to Start -> Run -> net stop boinc. To Start BOINC back up use "net start boinc". |

@Simon Hi Chicken, I was checking one of my results and I noticed something odd in the CPU features list. As you can see it's a PD which supports both SSE2 and SSE3, instead it reads SSE3 twice (see below) Optimized SETI@Home Enhanced application Optimizers: Ben Herndon, Josef Segur, Alex Kan, Simon Zadra Version: Windows SSE3 32-bit based on seti V5.15 'Noo? No - Ni!' Revision: R-2.2|xP|FFT:IPP_SSE3|Ben-Joe CPUID: Intel Pentium D 'Smithfield' CPUs: 1, cores: 2, threads: 1 cache: L1=16K, L2=1024K, L3=0K Features: MMX, SSE, SSE3, SSE3, speed: 2992 MHz -- read MB/s: L1=10472, L2=7288, RAM=3974 I know it's just a small detail, but I believe the first "SSE3" is actually "SSE2" :) This is happening in all my 3 computers, including a P4 that doesn't support SSE3 ;) BTW, outstanding work you and your crew did on these apps. My DCF keeps lowering and my RAC is going through the roof. Thanks! and please extend all of our compliments to those who developed and tested with you. Regards, Wander Edit: just added some color |

@Simon It does the same on my X2's also. On my P4 Northwood it goes MMX, SSE, SSE3....the Northwood doesn't have SSE3. Just a typo in there I guess. |

I have updated to the latest version of Boinc and I think it is slow. Can you please advise if I can use this so called chicken soup. Which version shall I download and so on.. Looking forward to your advise. |
