Has anyone notice that with the 5.8.11 version for Linux the 2nd CPU is being ignored. I have 3 SMP systems and up until this point they were crunching away 2 instances of the app(5.4.11 worked great). Now with the upgrade to 5.8.11 the 2nd CPU is detected but a second instance is not started. My preference is set to: "On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors". I also tried "--update_prefs" and "--reset_project". Any info will be appreciated. |

go to "general prefs" under "your account", and increase the new memory use settings. By default they're "50% when in use", and "90% when idle", see if that doesn't fix the issue. It will not run on the second processor if it doesn't have enough memory available to run on. This is NEW with 5.8.X. |

Thank you for your prompt reply. I did as you recommended and i ran "--update_prefs" again. I noticed something in the log about "New host venue" 2007-02-13 15:31:23 [SETI@home] New host venue: work 2007-02-13 15:31:23 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2006-09-08 11:54:48) 2007-02-13 15:31:23 [---] Host location: work 2007-02-13 15:31:23 [---] General prefs: using separate prefs for work 2007-02-13 15:31:23 [---] Number of usable CPUs has changed from 1 to 2. Running benchmarks. I'm not sure if i did something wrong before when i tried to update my preference but the second time did it for me. The host is happily crunching away two untis. Thank you. |

freaky, but if you're happy with it being set to "work", then I'm OK with it. LOL |

All servers were down a while ago, did you happen to try do it back then? |
