sorry to take up space with what i think is a dumb question... i am running Seti using Alex's 5.1x version and want to try out the new 7.1 (Mac, G5 version). how do get the Boinc manager to quit running version 5.1 and start running 7.1? tried dumping all the items from the Zip file into the Lib/App Support/Boinc folder, and that does not seem to do it. TIA for any help! Sedge if by chance an honest man like yourself were to make enemies, they would become my enemies. and then they will fear you. ![]() ![]() |

i am running Seti using Alex's 5.1x version and want to try out the new 7.1 (Mac, G5 version). 1) Quit BOINC 2) Download the application 3) Extract the files from the download, and copy them into /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu Answer "yes" if it asks if you want to replace. 4) Restart BOINC Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

humm...ok, tried that in both the root folder, as well as my account folder. when restarting it's still 5.13 that shows up in the Application line of Boinc Manger. *bangs head on desk* Sedge if by chance an honest man like yourself were to make enemies, they would become my enemies. and then they will fear you. ![]() ![]() |

humm...ok, tried that in both the root folder, as well as my account folder. when restarting it's still 5.13 that shows up in the Application line of Boinc Manger. *bangs head on desk* You should only have one BOINC Data folderâ€â€only one that’s in use, at least. You should be able to tell which is active from the date-stamps on the files, client_state.xml being the most frequently updated. Copy the files to the S@h folder inside the projects folder there. Any other BOINC folders you have are probably left over from a previous installation. Seeing the new app described as v5.13 in BOINC Manager is to be expected; the app_info file tells BOINC that the optimized app is a variant of the current official app, and BOINC takes it at its word. The best place to check is in the output messages from a completed result. In your most recent results I see OS X optimized S@H Enhanced application by Alex Kan Version info: OS X Altivec (G4/G5, G5-optimized) V5.13 by Alex Kan so it appears that you are running an optimized appâ€â€but not the most recent version. In the results from my G5 it says Version info: OS X Altivec (G4/G5, G5-optimized v7.1-nographics) V5.13 by Alex Kan even though in my case it reports itself elsewhere as v5.17 because that’s what I’m running in S@h Beta, and BOINC v5.4.9 takes that to be the current version here as well because it has the same name, despite belonging to a different project. Since you don’t appear to be running Beta, this is irrelevant to your situation. ![]() |

humm...ok, tried that in both the root folder, as well as my account folder. when restarting it's still 5.13 that shows up in the Application line of Boinc Manger. *bangs head on desk* You cannot go by what shows in BOINCmgr. It always shows 5.13. You need to look at the result details s once it they have been returned to the project. As for location, you have me confused. There is only one place it goes: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu There is no other place "BOINC Data" exists. Make sure you are putting the files in the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder, not higher up in the path. Dublin, California Team: SETI.USA ![]() |

I installed the new 5.8.1 version of Boinc and getting an error saying that permissions are not set and I have to reinstall Boic when I use the same procedure to install the 7.2 core duo version on my Mac Mini 1.66 Intel. ![]() |

Bump again. The complete error message I get is: As I got exactly the same error message when I had moved the complete downloaded folder to the "projects" folder, that is what I assume you also have done. As I now understand it, only the files contained in that downloaded folder are to be transferred to the original "setiathome.berkeley.edu" folder within the "projects" folder. To avoid any complications, I am going to wait until after 1730hrs UTC (hoping that SETI normality will be back on opening the "office"). Only then, shall I upload all my completed results before trying the above procedure. Should I be incorrect in my assuption on the above transfer of files, I would be very appreciative of a reply before 1730hrs UTC for the benefit of myself, and also "smithwr3" and any others interested in upgrading to one of the OSX enhanced apps. As I now understand it, only the files contained in that downloaded folder are to be transferred to the original "setiathome.berkeley.edu" folder within the "projects" folder. I can’t say for sure that’s the cause of the error, but it seems very likely. The executable application file and the app_info.xml document should be ‘naked’ in /projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ â€â€none of the projects I run have any directories below that level. ![]() |

Odysseus and smithwr3 I've found the answer to the error message: BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC. (Error code -1202) All that is needed for the 2 vital files "app_info.xml" and the 'executable application file', is as follows:- Quit Boinc manager and locate the 2 files in the "....projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu" folder (or transfet them from the expanded downlod folder, if not already there). Select one of these and "Get Info" (or Cmd I) and under "Ownership and Permissions/Details", after clicking on the padlock to unlock, change "Owner" to "boinc_master" from the pull-down menu, entering password when required, and similarly change "Group" to "boinc_project", relocking the padlock to finish. Repeat this for the 2nd file and then restart BoincManager. Keith |

As i have now upgraded to Version 7.2, does that mean that I can ignore the new 5.1.8 version for OSX? I am a little confused on this as 5.1.3 is still showing in the Result info: <core_client_version>5.8.2</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Users/alexkan/seti/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 OS X optimized S@H Enhanced application by Alex Kan Version info: OS X Altivec (G4/G5, G4-optimized v7.1-nographics) V5.13 by Alex Kan I did see somewhere that the updates would no longer be automatic, so would also need to know where to find the manual update should it be necessary. As i have now upgraded to Version 7.2, does that mean that I can ignore the new 5.1.8 version for OSX? V5.13 is the project version number which Alex's builds are intended to replace, and AFAIK that's still the correct MacOS build level for this project. The V5.18 MacOS app being tested in Seti Beta has a revised conversion factor from fpops to credits, and should not be used here. Mac systems using Alex's apps here, running BOINC 5.5.11 or earlier, and crunching for both projects will need to have a revised app_info.xml to spoof as <version_num>518 here. I tried my best to explain why in this thread. Joe |

Smitty, you need to go to the boincsynergy website, log in, click "your details", and copy and paste your cpuid into the stats box. This is what's stopping your display. tony |
