After a power cut, when my PC rebooted it can't connect to any BOINC projects, all I get is an empty Project Manager saying :- "BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to connectagain?" Have checked ethernet connection & I can access the internet. What is wrong and how can I fix it Alan (not crunching) |

It happens occasionally, on one of my, now retired, computers I tracked it down to Internet security s/ware not allowing access to network until it had finished scans etc. As it was a computer that was always on, I removed BOINC from startup and started manually. Andy |

After a power cut, when my PC rebooted it can't connect to any BOINC projects, all I get is an empty Project Manager saying :- The actual message you quote is caused by the failure to connect between the separate parts of BOINC *on your own computer*. BOINC is not just one program but three, four counting the actual science application. The message you quote is a failure to connect between the BOINC GUI interface (the BOINC manager) and the "client" which is running on your computer. There is a "server" located at Berkeley, but your message does not mention the "server" or "project", but specifically says "client". See the "Enhanced FAQ" in the sticky posts at the top of this forum for a complete discussion of the "client, server, manager and application" meaning and how they apply to BOINC. (You might also try the link in my signature, but I can't guarantee that it will work right now. I'm in the middle of moving things around and switching servers for it.) /edit/ The situation Winternight mentions can be true as many security programs see an attempted connection on the localhost as the same as an attempt to connect to the actual Internet, and AFAIK, BOINC also checks for the availability of a net connection at certain times. I don't know how you have your computers set up, but a very similar problem arose a while back that was solved by adding a pause in the startup of BOINC to allow other things to get up and running first.
