Noticed in my manager messages tab that a new version has been released. 21/10/2006 18:29:05|SETI@home|Requesting 6 seconds of new work, and reporting 2 completed tasks 21/10/2006 18:29:08||A new version of BOINC (5.6.5) is available for your computer 21/10/2006 18:29:08||Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php to get it. But when i go to the download page it shows 5.4.11 as being the current version. Showing all gives 5.6.5 as still being a development version. System hiccup? Grant Darwin NT |

I just searched my messages and I didn't see any notice on mine but I'm running Linux. This might be as you said, a hiccup, and then again it might be they just haven't got around to modifying the website yet. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. If you click on the link for "all versions" you'll find 5.6.5 there, flagged as "may be unstable". I think this version was "never to be released" because they were going straight to version 5.8(?) because there was not enough resource to properly test both and the improvements in 5.6 are included in 5.8 anyway. I also got that message, just once. Probably a hiccup? I've am trying 5.6.5 out on one of my machines and so far no problems, but YMMV. --miw |

I'm running 5.6.5. It is fairly stable with only a few error message that don’t effect anything, but it isn't ready for prime time yet. It is was intended that this test version would be release to the public. Unfortunately, some bug were found at the last minute. Time constraints came into play because of commitment to the team at WCG that are working on the simplified GUI. It was decided by the Boinc developers that it was impractical to try and parallel test two versions, so 5.6.x testing is being stopped and is being merged into the simplified GUI for continued debugging. This will delay a public release but overall should keep the simple GUI which should be released under the version 5.8.x on track. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

Addendum The think that the main features being delayed are changes to the scheduler to more gracefully handle a mix of projects with extremely short and very long WU. Of course, the most important feature for many people will be CPU throttling. |
