Nice composition, Tim. I like what you included and what you clipped away. :) |

Thanks! This in the courtyard of an old mansion at Southern Vermont College It's one of my Favorite places to shoot. So far this fall the leaves and colors are not good at all. Overnight the temps got down to freezing so I hope this will shock the trees to go to sleep and give me the colors I deserve..... about the Mansion Everett Mansion ![]() |

Well yes, I should also have mentioned the colors. The red is a wonderful contrast to both the grey wall and equally, to the green, orange and black of the trees in the background. I think you got there at the perfect time to take the pic. I frankly doubt that you'll get a better color contrast. But I especially liked that you didn't include too much of the walls on the sides. That would have "closed" the viewer's sense of personal space too much and would have distracted from the eye moving forward through the gates. If there's one teensy element that might have lucked out a bit better for you, it would have been nice if the left gateway could have been a bit less blacked-out, ie if you could've had a bit of a dark "see-through" of the trees beyond. But that's a small point about perfection, I guess. Because it's not like that detail 'spoils' the shot or anything. ;) |

There is thick forestation on that side, the light is from the right. If I lightened just that part it would have thrown of the balance of the shot . The leaves on the wall anchors the shot. I try not to manipulate a photo if I can help it, As I am not perfect neither is my work..LOL... ![]() |

Not to worry Tim... With a properly calibrated and profiled display, you can clearly see the trees through the left arch (you can even count the 9 bars of the 'gateway')... @ Beets... Andrew Rodney has some great info on color management and why it's important for proper display of imagery on the computer monitor here... (if your display is even close to being properly calibrated, you should be able to clearly see at least 18 of 20 patches in the step wedge below... if you can't make out the change between the 1st and 2nd on the left, don't worry too much... if you can't see the difference between the 2nd and 3rd, try adjusting the contrast on your display as a start.) ![]() |

I did say in my previous post that I could also see the trees through the left arch, and I said a bit more but then thought it was all getting a bit pretentious, so I modified the post. I also liked your 'arty' photo too Chip, and I'm looking for my arty photos but everythings a bit buried here. |
