My oldest is a 166 Pentium Pro gateway. I would not be wasting the electricity if I didn't have to be online running an online radio station anyway. My next two oldest is a 400amd k6/2 and a 399 p2. Chris ![]() |

Chris I still have my old dual pentium 120 mmx at home which use to crunch a lot of seti classic. And it is still booting and working. ![]() bi Xeon 3.06 2gig ram bi AMD Opteron 2210 4gig ram AMD X2 4200 2gig ram AMD X2 4800 1gig ram AMD Opteron 165 2gig ram ![]() |

how long does it take with them old things P166/128MB (Linux), SETI_Enhanced, was taking ~6 days for the 62 credit WU's... Old box that I was using just to test html from... I ran SETI on it since it did little else... Gutted it out not to long ago to use the guts in a "real-world interface" project... Do a deja search. I seem to recall someone who did SETI on a 386 just for the hell of it! ![]() |

I think Purple Rabbit has got the title. He is using an overdrive @ 133 but it is still a 486 system board. This is my slowest: http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/show_host_detail.php?hostid=13580 which is a Compac 5100, which was state of the art in 1994 when it was built. It is not upgradeble beyond 133. |

I got PII @ 450 MHz, 256MB RAM running Win. 98 (first edition). Takes ~50-60 hours to complete work unit. I see now that it is not the slowest. I got old Dell with 133 MHz Pentium, runs Linux at the moment, and I think I have a 486 in a closet that I got for cheap. ![]() |

Hey, I have a 133 somewhere, I wonder where I put it. Also I have a computer with an old cyrix processor. I wonder how well that would work! Chris. I got PII @ 450 MHz, 256MB RAM running Win. 98 (first edition). Takes ~50-60 hours to complete work unit. I see now that it is not the slowest. ![]() |

I have a 450MHz p3 crunching Rosetta and Einstein and I got to thinking - there have to be even slower computers crunching BOINC projects. Hi, I'm the Guru, number 11 in the "World Stats" with a 233 MHZ clone that's been number crunching since 1999. I built this machine on spare parts and it's on steroids. Guru |

Here's my effort: http://xw01.lri.fr:4320/show_host_detail.php?hostid=32464 Sweet! This is the same rig in a Compaq Armada (except for 64MB memory) that I first crunched Classic in 99'. It took me @ 3-4 days to complete a WU at the time if I recall. |

Do I win, http://xw01.lri.fr:4320/show_host_detail.php?hostid=32468? I think that one almost certainly wins on the benchmarks count lol. i thought i was bad still running my old Celeron 700Mhz system on Linux but some of these machines are truly ancient. Sadly the 700 is a fairly recent addition to my veggie patch as well, picked it up with a 17in monitor keyboard and mouse for 100 bucks lol. I Started with a farm of AMD k6/2 300Mhz systems and a 233Mhz k6 (overclocked to 300Mhz and fried after a week and a half lol) back in classic days. Had like 6 of em at one point on boinc. Unfortunatly i still Had all the CPU's up to a couple of months ago but every single motherboard failed on me within 3 months lol so not a single system still crunches. I was actually about to retire the 700Mhz system cause it was a little too old and a waste of electricity for crunching but it can wait until i get a replacement. i now try and limit myself to 3 24/7 crunchers and 1 part time one. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I was actually about to retire the 700Mhz system cause it was a little too old and a waste of electricity for crunching but it can wait until i get a replacement. I tried that once, but the Celeron 500 kept waking me up, by whispering in my ear "plug me in, hook me to the internet, let me crunch, I can still do it......Plug me in, hook me to the internet, let me crunch, I can still do it" |

It will be going to a new home, just retiring as an active cruncher. A mate doesnt have a computer and wants to check out this fangled new internet thing i said he could have the 700 Celeron as soon as i replaced it. i think he wanted the 2Ghz system but that still does good work. when he feels the need for speed and buys a new computer i might convert the 700 into an email/web server and BOINC Cruncher as well of course. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
