This sounds like they're going away for a long time!!!

The last of the bprion work units should go out today. After that there will be a down time while we implement new methods of protein structure prediction. Thank you for your support in this project and we look forward to working with you again.

As far as I am concerned they will not be missed at all. The last time I tried to get any work from them it all failed when crunch time came around.

I've been reducing the number of projects I crunch.

I dropped Einstein because it simply didn't stir my imagination. I get it intellectually, but not emotionally.

I liked LHC and HashClash, but they're always out of work, and my log was cluttered from BOINC constantly hammering them for more work.

So, it's SETI, SETI Beta and BOINC Alpha....

Predictor closed my account, several months back, for speaking the truth about their lack of communication. I have reuqested access back, several ways, but alas they feel that I am a threat to their livelyhood, I guess. I never was vulgar, and was pretty diplomatic in my statements. I feel they were in the wrong.

I did a letter writing campaign to several of the interested parties, and maybe those interested parties are pulling their ties, or something? I am unsure why they are closing. I did get a couple of nice letters from these third parties, and one had already pulled it's support for Predictor, and was moving to a new project.

I know I am not the only one with issues with Predictor. If it fell off the project list forever, it would not bother me.

Pooh, they booted P D Buck for asking every week or two if they were going to fix those darn "fortran errors".

I haven't crunched Predictor since that event.

the fortran errors appeared on the Users screens, so I imagine they programmed some in fortran. The errors weren't frequent but annoying. Paul kept asking if they were addressing them, and they didn't like being reminded, so they banished him. That ruffled more than just Pauls' feathers.

I've been crunching for Rosetta@Home and they have their ducks in a row. They've squashed bugs with their BOINC interface and lowered the memory usage (with graphics off) to less than 100k for computers with less than 2 GB of RAM. They are also very cruncher friendly and have a cruncher of the day and are looking for ways to recognize crunchers.

I crunch for Rosetta as well and cosider it a good compliment (or perhaps replacement) for Predictor. New users might want to tread lightly in their forums at the moment, tho. There is currently a bit of a brouhaha raging regarding a new work-based (not time*benchmark) credit system that is being phased in.
