I'm just wondering how long Seti@Home keeps your result history?

When I look at my stats in the BOINC manager or at my results on my account page online, it only seems to show results from about the last week? Is there any way to see a more full history of work-over-time? I mean I'd love to be able to see a graph of my results from when I started, and like weekly averages or something (possibly by computer and over all for my account in general)?

Or, would that be too difficult to implement or too costly in terms of messaging bandwidth/time? I think it would be nifty to see historical data. :) Or at least have a log of all completed work units available online, even if it would be too hard or expensive to ship a total/average stat to each client itself. I'd still like to at least be able to somewhere see all the units I've worked on and how much credit was granted for each one?

Maybe it's just me...

Try BOINC Stats.
The actuall results you return are purged from the datbase after a week or so (i think it is) to stop the disks from filling up & the system grinding to a halt.

Hi Michael,
The work unit results that you see on the website are left online only long enough for a quorum to form and the results get validated. Shortly after this is done the cannonical result is stored in the master science database and the rest are deleted since they are no longer needed. (Berkeley just does not have the disk space to keep all of the results online all of the time.) There are programs available depending on your operating system that allow you to keep the information you speak of on your own computer but it is not available online. And they would contain information for only the work units you crunched since installing the application. (As far as I know, I can't run one since I run linux and I haven't found one that runs under Linux yet.) The only thing that is available online is your current stats in relation to other crunchers. Check some of the links at the bottom of your account page.

Alrighty, I figured it was something to that effect... Too storage intensive to keep a record of everyone's work units to date spanning several hundred thousand or several million users and computers. Makes sense.

Thankee muchly!

Now if they could just get my classic credits to show up my new BOINC account without creating a NEW boinc account, I'd be happy. So far all they've managed to do is create a second account linked to my classic credit, and not add the classic credits to the BOINC account I'm actually actively using. *sigh* everyone keeps pointing me to the same page and not actually resolving the problem. sah_email_form.php isn't the end-all-be-all when it doesn't work the first time and subsequent visits to the form don't appear to fix the problem and it's the only solution anyone seems to point to (even after I've mentioned it didn't fix my issue *sigh*).

Am I wrong in assuming that once an account is LINKED it should display both your classic credits AND your new credits all from the same e-mail/login/password, NOT two separate accounts that don't appear to 'see' each other?

Any advice not involving that php form would be helpful. Or if you can get the form to actually WORK, hey wouldn't that be marvellous? I thnk I may have forgotten my password tho', so I think it keeps wanting to create a new account rather than properly 'link.' And I don't think anyone answered my question on whether an old password was user-created or simply a string of numbers created by the Seti@Home Classic system? (I tried pasting in the "key" value from my user_info.sah file on my old system that had classic, but that didn't seem to help, and I tried every variant on my basic password I can remember having used over the last 5 years, none of them seemed to help).

No you are not wrong, however you must use the original email address when you establish your new account. BTW, the only time you will see your classic credits is if you view somebody's information. The only difference you will see when someone posts in the forums will be your "member since" date will show when you joined classic, not when you signed up for your seti/boinc account. You will not see your classic credits either here or on any "stats" pages. (Most people work around it by including their classic stats in their signature.)

If you still have your old S@h data folder, in particular your user_info.sah file, here's a special formthat can identify your original account from its contents.
Simply copy the contents into the area provided on the form and it will retrieve all of your original info. If this account is already linked to an account that is not the one you are using now, you have two choices. 1. Keep crunching on the account you are using now and forget about your classic stats, or... 2. detach from the project and reattach using the account information of the account that shows your classic credits and forget about the credits you've already gained in this account. You cannot combine two Seti/Boinc accounts.
Hope this helps.

Ooh, hey, we're sort of getting somewhere, I think.

So, let's back up a second here, you said that the classic credits aren't viewable from any stats page. Let's define this. Are we talking boinc manager stat pages, or are we talking web site login to "your account" page (err, login then click "your account")? 'Cause right now it appears I have two BOINC accounts for some reason (IE, it seems like when I tried a few different passwords it sent me a new account key, assuming I'd terminally lost the old one, which might be the case).

I'm not expecting to see Classic stats in the boinc manager program (I know classic stuff is incompatible and was on a different scale, etc.). But I'm assuming there should be a section in the "Your Account" page that lists both current and classic stats. And the Classic stats are basically just memorabilia and don't affect anything (but they'repretty memorabilia and I'd hate to lose them completely, but I'd hate to lose my new 300 credits either if it's not necessary). The only place they really show up is if someone browses your stats from say work units to result id's to computers/owner it'll show total credits and total Classic stats.

Right-ish? I think that's what I got from the above anyway.

Next point, the password look-up was a no-go. Frankly I think it went defunct after SetiClassic finished transitioning to BOINC, that or somehow my .sah file is insufficient 'cause I copied everything and it said no-go. So my password may be lost in the sands of time (I tried the key=... #, but it didn't take that).

So, I'd think there should be soem back-end database guru trick to get my one account which currently only sees my new work results since I started back up last month to see the classic results that the other account sees (but it doesn't see my NEW results for the last month since I re-started under BOINC after leaving Classic around 2004/2005-ish). I mean you'd think, right? if one ccount can see the classic data it's got to be in the systme somewhere still, yeah? Can't they just make my other account (which was the one I was trying to link with, rather than creating a new account) see the same classic data? I mean if the database is moderately straightforward I'd think there would just be a reference somewhere that needs to be set in the new account or a cross-linking table so that the account "sees" or is seen by the old data...

It's just tantalizingly close. One accoutn sees the classic data, it's just the wrong account, and I can't seem to get the RIGHT account to see it. If that were to somehow magically happen I'd be most happy. I mean I have the login to both, so I can verify I'm the legit owner of both. I feel like I just need someone who knows what they're doing to go in and link the right account to the same data the wrong accoutn is already linked to. I mean there's got to be a way for someone to fix something like this. :)

Heck, if I knew how their database was set up and had access I'd just go in and find the field or the cross-reference table and set it up correctly myself (seeing as I work with our database at work day in and day out, I have a suspicion that for someone who actually knows the database and how it's set up and has proper permissions, it wouldn't be all that difficult to fix). Sadly, I doubt they'd let me poke around to do it. ;)

I guess, to some degree, the question is if there's any way to link classic data to an existing BOINC account rather than creating a new one (which it seems to have done, but some people say I can still link things to the right account if I do it properly), if you don't know your original password and can't retrieve it via the retrieval form? I mean is there someone that can go in and fix it, since I'm the valid account holder for both accounts (one that sees my new data and one that was erroneously created to see the old data)? IE, remove the erroneously created one and link the classic data to my active account? Or once an account is erroneously created with a link to your old data, is that it, no other account can see the old data, and you're just screwed up one side and down the other (for lack of a better, less colorful analogy)? Heh.

Sorry to be so wordy. Just trying to figure out my level of screwed-ness (IE, 1] can I fix it without knowing my original password 2] can someone else fix it since I can prove I'm the valid account owner for both accounts or 3] is it completely irreparable by anyone including the official project DBA's?)...

Thanks in advance. Just trying to surround and expose the problem so maybe it can get fixed (or completely can't, and I can just *sniff* lose my classic results [or the 300 new BOINC credits] forever).

So, just for examples:

one member of my team for University of Oregon:

SETI@home member since 15 Mar 2003
Country United States
URL [snip]
Total credit 68,434.88
Recent average credit 28.23
SETI@home classic workunits 1,043
SETI@home classic CPU time 15,020 hours
Team University of Oregon

His lists classic AND current credits.

versus mine:

SETI@home member since 11 Apr 2006
Country United States
Total credit 279.67
Recent average credit 13.24
Team University of Oregon

which doesn't list any classic credits on my active account, only NEW credits (so obviously didn't get linked correctly)... What to do?

Actually, getting back to the results history:

I think it would be cool if the local machine's BOINC client could log statistics whenever it communicates. That would create a client-side user history (granted, only from the time the particular machines starts gettings stats on the project). But I still think it would be a cool feature for BOINC, and it wouldn't be much more intensive on Seti@Home's server than currently since it already distributes statistics, and the only added work would be minimal and on the client side, not the server's side.

And then users could see how their account has performed over the longer term (of course it would be nice to see both host and user over all statistics). Granted, if a machine didn't communicate with the project for a while, there would be a gap in the history that might end up being represented just by a stright line from the last communication to the next. But, c'est la vie. Better than nothing, right? For what info you do get, it would be interesting. to averages over time and total results over time...

First, the program you need is "boincview". Check the download links for boinc addons. I think this will be helpful for the stats you want. It should keep a record of all your work units and everything. Sorry but I don't have the link available right now. I just jumped in and saw your post. (This is helping to take my mind off the fact that my mother passed away just yesterday.)

Now to your account problem. Yes, I run four databases myself. I need to merge two of them as they both are sql databases but just haven't gotten around to it yet. (The other two are special research databases.)
It would be simple to fix if either you or myself had access to the database however I am just another volunteer like yourself that enjoys helping people with what I've learned in the short time that I have been here. (My wife is disabled and I have to stay at home with her so I have quite a bit of time on my hands so I read a lot on the forums and try to keep up with what's going on.)

If I understand your earlier post, you have an account where you can see your classic credits on your "Your account" page. That is why you can't link to your classic account now. It would already be linked to an account. In this case, you have three choices. Live with this account and not be able to see your classic credits (You could do as many do and just add your classic totals to your sig), forget this account and the credits you've earned here and start using the other account, or email someone actually at the project and explain what has happened. I have been trying to find the email address to someone but i can't seem to find them right now. Maybe someone else can stop by and furnish the email address to use for this purpose.

Hmm, well, I thought I did that... setidba@ssl.berkeley.edu but they just referred me back to the sign-up page, which doesn't help for a mis-created account. *sigh* tried e-mailing them again, but it's been a week and I haven't heard back. =o\\

So, who knows. Yeah, I guess I can grab the universal link to the other account that doesn't see my new totals and post it to my new account's signature. *Sigh* Non-optimal solution, but it'll do in a pinch I guess. I'm sure they have better things to do than fix everyone's accounts. It would be nice, but, ohh well. ;)

As to the history... IT appears that as of the newer version and maybe the old one too? There *is* a history from the time the client was installed on a particular machine? I think it was just hard to determine 'cause I was using two or three machines after I started some newer than others and only displaying the last week's results (since the particular machines had only been attached for a week). And for long periods without results-getting it appears to just have a straight line from the last known level to the newest known level, about the way I'd suggested it should work, and apparently it already does. My bad, or something. ;)

Okay, we'll chalk that one up to either a patch in the meanwhile or insufficient time using it on my part to get a good feel for how BOINC worked.

So, I think most of my issues are resolved. Though I'd still love to see online auto-update integrated into BOINC, where it'll go fetch and installed the latest appropriate version of BOINC. But, you could specify auto-update preferences by machine (client-end, I guess), in case you prefer to do your own builds based on the latest current, or if you want to keep a specific version because you know it runs stably (barring and REQUIRED upgrades to work properly with upgradedWU's in the future or what have you).

I just hink it would make keeping people up-to-date a whole lot simpler and then everyone could theoretically be on the same page, performance tweaks, better new processor timings / multi-core processor support and interface streamlining could be automatically propagated, etc. I mean why not build that into BOINC's download process? One could even modularize it to include certain uploads/downloads and exclude others.

* Download *
[ ] BOINC Client udates
[x] Seti@Home Updates
[ ] New Work Units
[x] Statistics
[ ] Etc.

* Upload *
[x] Results
[ ] Preferences (for account managers? like BAM or whatever)

That way folks could get only what they're looking for, updates could be propagated automatically, people can avoid getting work units if they're not wanting to potentially get overcommitted, people can just request stats updates without wasting bandwidth on their side or server side on other issues...

I think that would handily streamline the interface.

Right now there's only the one 'Update' button. Usually the first tiem you click it it tries to report and download new WU's (whici is annoying since I usually only want to get any new stats that were pending), after upload/download is complete, THEN it'll try for stats or whatever. It's just a weird interface to have one button do like 2-3 different things depending on the time of day and how recently you already pushed it. ;o)
