when we get new Data.. it make no sense to crunch this old WUs ever and ever and.. .... also with Seti enhanced... There are likely still some 1999 tapes still not analysed. And until the new data recorder for ALFA comes online, we can still gain useful additional science by rerunning WUs from s@h-classic through s@h-enhanced. We gain about x2 extra sensititvity with s@h-enhanced. Rerunning WUs would 'deepen' the existing search made. Also the rerun WUs would give a good cross-reference check if required to ensure that the s@h-enhanced analysis is consistent with the s@h-classic analysis. However I think you are shorting the sensitivity of the new app. I have heard figures of closer to 8x the sensitivity of the standard 4.18 seti application. So this would make the rerunning of old wu's even more advantagous, however I think the main reason we are still seeing old wu's is that the tapes are just put into a bin (see photo secction of the website for pictures of it) and pulled out when needed. Also there were many tapes that were checked during classic and even the new standard seti and found to be too noisy for use. However now we have started digging out some of these previously marked "noisy" tapes to get new information. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. i think we have crunched this... We are crunching tapes that were never before split. Based on a post from Matt a while back, we're about out of those. The new data recorder is being installed at Aricebo, and if I read correctly, they'll be bringing those back with them. |

There was a post in SETI Beta that said they wanted comparison results, perhaps this is some of them. Click here to join the #1 Aussie Alliance in SETI |

This gallery shows the lab, and the third photo shows where the tapes are kept. It's pretty easy to picture the tapes getting stuffed into the bottom shelf as they come in, with the newest tapes at the top/front. |
