ok, I figured out how to get the cmd line working but not sure how to enter my information At the boinc wiwki : http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Main_Page is almost everything documented. - There are also a lot of good install dokumentations. You need to attach to the project with this command : " boinc_client -attach_project http://setiathome.berkely.edu $ACCOUNT_KEY" <- Change $ACCOUNT_KEY in the command in the accountkey, you get from the project per email. |

sheesh, just when I think I have something... I don't I opened file manager, started run_client, it said insuffient work so I put in /boinc_client -attach_project http://setiathome.berkely.edu ACCOUNT KEY and it did nothing. yes, I changed "ACCOUNT KEY" to my account. there was no instructions for boinc on a sparc computer so I tried the boinc on solaris x86 just so I could get a feeling for it. did no good. but it did say to open boincmgr. so I did and it says ld.so.1: boincmgr: fatal: libexpat.so.0: open failed: No such file or directory did I miss a step somewhere? texaspowerwashing.com |

Can you please post the messages from the boinc client.
The attach projedure are still the same on every unix. But at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/solaris.php are some special solaris notes.
You need to have the libexpat, libiconv (gettext package) and the libgcc installed for the boinc mananager, boinc client and the setiathome app. - You can download it at www.sunfreeware.com Please look into this thread for more details : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=26222 Also, there was a lot of question about this toppic in the help desk in the past . The search engine on the help desk will point you to a lot of more threads... |

2006-03-18 08:48:16 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.43 for sparc-sun-solaris2.7 Can you please post the complete output beginning from the startup. Also it is better to start the boinc_client from a terminal, and not with the filemanager. It could also be, that in your boinc directory are two files called stderrdae.txt and stdoutdae.txt. - If the two files exist, can you please post the output, too. In your computers list are no solaris system shown, so it looks like something going wrong with the attachment to the project... |

thats all I am getting. :) Very strange. I can start boinc from console? or terminal? Yes, I meaned console or a terminal. btw, thanks for your help, your very kind to a newb :D Your welcome. what I probably need is someone in the Austin area to let me come by and teach me the basics. I will look if I find some web based unix trainings and documentations about Unix... But back to you seti problem... Some steps, how the boinc client can be installed : - Open a terminal - Go into the directory, where your boinc_client is. - You can find the boinc binary with the command "find / -name boinc_client" - cd to the directory, where it is installed, for example "cd /home/seti". - For safeity reasons, let us delete all the xml files : "rm *xml" - Start the boinc client with the attach_project option : "boinc_client -attach_project $ACCOUNT_KEY" <- Change $ACCOUNT_KEY in the key you get from the project. Now you should get a lot of more output like before. The boinc client will do a benchmark, attach to the seti project, download the seti app and download a workunit. If you have installed the librarys I have posted in my last postings, you can also attach with the boinc manager : - Open a terminal - Find the boinc_client binary - cd to the directory where the boinc_client is. - Start the boinc_client - Open another terminal - cd to the directory where the boinc_client is. - Start the boincmgr - Let the connect to the system and password blank (Press only OK on the password dialog. - Click to "projects" and "attach to project" and enter the questions, the boincmanager needs to attach... - Now the boinc client will do benchmark and download of the seti app and seti WUs. |

If you have installed the librarys I have posted in my last postings, you can also attach with the boinc manager : another strange thing. I couldn't find a downloadable from sunfreeware. it was listed in exlib but not a link to download from. texaspowerwashing.com |

If you have installed the librarys I have posted in my last postings, you can also attach with the boinc manager : I have no problem to download it, the links are ok. You must click to SPARC/Solaris 10, and select the package. Also this ftp links work for me - You need to download and install all these three packages : ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/10/expat-1.95.5-sol10-sparc-local.gz ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/10/libiconv-1.8-sol10-sparc-local.gz ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/10/libgcc-3.3-sol10-sparc-local.gz You could also try to download it from a mirror... Here you will find some links about the installation and configuration of the packages : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=26222 http://www.sunfreeware.com/download.html |
