I have an athlon xp 3000+ system running windows xp sp2 that my daughter uses that I wold like to reformat the HD on. She has so much crap on there and it's starting to slow down because of it.

Question is...Can I backup the BOINC folder to an alternate location on my network and then copy it back after the format and run it? Or do I need to tell BOINC to not get any more work and let it drain itself of workunits and do a fresh install after formatting?

Thanks in advance.

Either will work, with one modification. If you choose the copy off and then copy back method, before you copy back you must install Boinc to the newly formatted drive, THEN shut it down and copy the copied off directory over the top of the newly installed one. Boinc, like most other programs, copies pieces of itself all over the hard drive, so just copying the directory back over without installing it won't work.

Thanks Mikey. I think I'll try the copy off/back method with your suggestions.
