I have an Ap400 dual 700MHz proc just waiting to start crunching.

In testing (without BOINC) doing some basic tasks as well as at idle and some heavy tasks for short periods I find the proc temperature possibly too high...

The temperature will go from 40 deg to 87 deg depending on the task but can achieve 80+ C with just simple tasks like loading an application. With a longer task it will remain high.

Oddly or not there is quite a difference in the 2 CPU temperatures with CPU 2 never going over 60 deg. (I still have some more testing to do with swapping the CPUs around.)

As these CPUs are rated at 85 deg C will running BOINC (which I suspect will achieve the higher 80+ C') cause any harm?

I would have expected them to cope as it is a work horse but wanted to checkout what others think first.

For heat monitoring I am using SpeedFan but how accurate it is I am unsure!

Has anyone modified their AP400 to add cooling?

Any suggestions \\ links?

Cheers
