Allo...I'm new to *nix and am struggling to get the setiathome BOINC client to work on my Athlon64 3200 based FreeBSD 5.4 system. It's basically just a Samba fileserver with a basic install of FreeBSD 5.4, and so I thought to put that amd64 CPU to work, but as a stark raving *nix neophyte, I've been unable to find a way to locate and install a setiathome BOINC client for this system.

Naively, my first thought was to browse FreeBSD's excellent ports collection for both the BOINC client and the boinc-setiathome client, and then to just install them and have them work *automagically*. I did find the BOINC client and installed it whithout issue, but I was unable to locate any kind of setiathome port in the ports collections of various FTP servers. I found that to be really odd. Why would the BOINC client be there, but not the equally important boinc-setiathome component? Undeterred, I then went into my ports tree, located the boinc-setiathome folder and attempted to perform a "make && make install". My attempt to install the boinc-setiathome port resulted in a compile error saying something to the effect of "error compiling due to incorrect architecture"... Does that mean BOINC is supported on amd64 FreeBSD, but not not setiathome? That's pretty silly, isn't it?

My second thought was to search for a specific tutorial/howto for getting seti@home to work on FreeBSD for amd64 (I'm a tutorial junkie), but I've had no luck.

As my understanding of *nix file structure and methods is rather crude, and given that my command line skills are still simplistic, I thought to turn to the benevolent legions of FreeBSD devotees who might know a solution, or at least be willing to point me in the right direction.

Thanks-

First, type like this.
# boinc -attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ <key>
<key> is your account ID which you have received by email from SETI@home.
Then, there should be a directory,
/var/db/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/
Now, reinstall boinc-setathome.
Then there should be files,
/var/db/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome
and
/var/db/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/app_info.xml
Reboot, and then, the boinc will automatically run.

Wow! It works! I just added boinc_enable="YES" to /etc/rd.conf and now it's crunching work units 24/7...cool.

Thanks for the help!
