The developers could answer for sure, but I've not seen any mention of it in the various discussions about future upgrades. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. |

Who wants to listen to noise, if that the case just turn your radio on to an unused station and you have sound, AND PLEASE IT IS BOINC not Boink... The ability to 'listen' to a workunit you're analyzing would be cool I think. The screensaver is merely a graphical representation of the workunit process anyway... just noise on a screen that has been 'prettied up', right? Why not provide sonifications of the workunit as well? Sure you would be listening to static, with maybe an occasional blip when something interesting happens... but it would be static from space, which could be a lot of fun in a Jodie Foster Contact kinda way. It's still allowed to be fun and interesting, right? Let's get back to capturing the imagination and making this about cool signals from space, rather than only ever talking about the latest BOINC client or how many workunits we can power through in a day. Just my (nerdy) thoughts :) Dig |

I suppose if you really want to hear sounds from space, it would be a cool option. But I'm afraid that anyone who's actually heard sounds from space might not really want them at all. But hey, it would be your choice (I hope they allow us to turn it off!). But for now, I think they're focusing on other, more pressing matters, such as tweaking and fixing BOINC and shutting down SETI Classic. |

The answer is that the sound represented by 99.999 or so % of all the data is white noise - turn your radio between stations and you get the same effect. The developers have no plans at the moment to add sound to the S@H project. BOINC WIKI |
