He is indeed CORRECT. New Version 5.2.5 for Windows Availble Now!! Download BOINC Client Software How Do I update? Do I need to wait for my WU's to finish? Will I have to reinstall my optimized client? "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible". Hebrews 11.3 |

Just noticed as well and downloading it. Anybody knows what is the actual improvement in version 5 over 4? And I don't mean minor details, but what is the real reason for a major version change? KPX |

I think its because of the whole password issue. My guess. Probably a few other minor adjustments. Downloaded and updated perfect here. No problems at all. All projects are in the green. All projects are in the green.[/quote] Just upgraded as well, SETI and Protein just fine, but unfinished Einstein unit has disappeared - well, I lost about an hour of work. Otherwise I agree with you, I don't see any major difference in the new version. KPX |

It's not a major version change. Namely this released addresses BOINC stopping Win9x machines from shutting down, crashes when RAS cannot be detected, and localization changes. A screensaver fix was taken for the mac. Localization updates for all platforms. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

It's not a major version change. I did notice that although I have my projects set at Runalways, That it would still have my maching go on stand by...did not use to do that with 4.45...did with 5.2.2...glad thats fixed now :) "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible". Are benchmarks supposed to automatically run when the last number of a version number (sorry, I don't know what that is called) changes? ----- |

Are benchmarks supposed to automatically run when the last number of a version number (sorry, I don't know what that is called) changes? Benchmark runs when you reboot and re-open BOINC or when BOINC is updated. I know they run when BOINC is updated and the first two numbers change (like version 4 to 5, or version 4.19 to 4.45), but I'm asking about the very last "minor" number. ----- |

OK,I think i'll upgrade one PC at a time by letting one PC clear out all WUfrom projects and then upgrade and then let them start up again. May not have to do it that way but it makes me feel better. There is one thing I never understood... Why is C@H using a Model date in the 1812 year??? Ricky |

... There is one thing I never understood... Why is C@H using a Model date in the 1812 year??? On CPDN, that's part of the calibration phase. The climate model is run multiple times to test that the model is stable, then to compare with known weather results, then to compare for other test parameters such as for increased CO2. They use different years to identify the simulation phases. See Experiment Strategy. Scroll down a little to "Experiment 1". Has anyone noticed that completed work units upload correctly but then in the work tab, the WU shows Ready to Report and does not release the WU, and on the projects tab, the total and average credits are not updated. |

yes, Berkeley has implemented a change to try to defer the reporting of work until you have several to report. It cuts down on server/db traffic. They'll report by themselves when you connect to get work or at some interval prior to the deadline, but I can't remember all the details. This is the new normal. |

Ok, I will let it run for a day or two before I sqawk, but what you say does not seem to be the case. I have approx 30 WU ready to report, and have connected several times to download new WU's. I have a 4 processor Intel system and complete a WU about every 45 minutes, so I hope you are right because my unreported WU's can build up fairly quickly. |

It is supposed to report at the first of: 1) A request for more work. 2) 24 hours before the deadline. 3) Days between connections after the result is done. 4) A manual update. BOINC WIKI |

I had an example on my laptop, I went to copy and paste it for you, but I just upgraded to 5.2.5 and it wiped my log. |
