I haven't been able to download any new Workunits for about a week now. I've tried reseting the project. I've even tried detching and reatching to the project.
These are the messages I get.

Parts of the schedulers has changed IPs. This usually only causes issues for a couple of days for some people. For others their caches do not clear, or their ISP is not set up correctly to follow the changes.

First thing I would try is in a "run" or "command prompt" do a ipconfig /flushdns then click update and see if it hits. If it does not, then you may need to wait a few more days to see if your ISP decides to finally gain the correct information.

If you have your own router, you may also want to recycle that and see if it helps.

I've tried flushing the dns cache and no joy. What seems to be killing me )I'm on dialup) is the time Boinc is waiting for an answer...ONE SECOND???? (pardon the shouting).

If a client is waiting for an answer only one second (and failed), there's definitely a firewall blocking that connection. Check if your firewall REALLY allows connections from the boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe applications (at least for port 80 and 1043).

Thanks for the quick answer. Didn't work I'm afraid. Turned off Zone Alarm, Atguard, and XP Pro SP1 firewall (and boy did I feel naked!) and still got the same messages with the one second wait. And ZA gives full access to the Boinc program. Maybe an update from windows borked something up...I dunno...not enough of a computer wiz to figure this out...current config worked fine for the oongest time..thanks again..john

ZA and XP firewalls do not turn off completely. They have to be configured to allow BOINC.exe out on port 80.

I'm not blocking any additional ports via firewall. Also doing Einstein and it has had no problems with uploading. downloading, or updating. Again tried flushing the cache (ipconfig/ flushdns), tried using a proxy (ns1.granitecanyon.com ip 205.166.226.38). Used IE to access http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
to see what I got, and what I got was "forbidden. you don't have permissionn to access this server"
Using mozilla, among other things got at the same URL:

This is correct because that's the expected response.

The problem is: WHY does IE block the address http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi? Are there some limitations in your internet settings ?!?

"setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu " and "setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu" and got timeouts. SEnt email off to my ISP to see if they know what the problem is. Thanks to all..john

OK, einstein works, we have just ruled out ports and executables being blocked. That leaves the likelyhood of a (very) stale DNS record somewhere, or the possibility that Cogent has been de-peered by someone again. Both of these can be worked around by using an anonymous proxy.

SEnt email off to my ISP. They sent back requesting I call l/l because it was complicated. The 'help' desk guy really impressed me. I explained the problem and that another HTTP proxy worked but going through their system didn't. I explained about seti's DNS change ladt month. I told him a tracert gave timeouts to both berkeley sites going through their site. He asked what software of theirs I was using and I said I didn't use any of theirs. He said they didn't support anything but theirs. Never heard of seti at home. And he said the five "techs" there never heard of it either. I figured for him sitting in an airconditioned office being an idiot was preferable to working flipping burgers so I told him "have a nice day". $9.95 a month and I can't complain but this is the first fool I've reached there. Boinc/Seti now working fine without the HTTTP proxy so I dunno..john

Weird. ISPs that require own software are crap in my eyes.

I've checked the DNS entries of the addresses, both point to:

ssl.berkeley.edu
        primary name server = sunspot.ssl.berkeley.edu
        responsible mail addr = root.sunspot.ssl.berkeley.edu
        serial  = 1001581
        refresh = 3600 (1 hour)
        retry   = 300 (5 mins)
        expire  = 3628800 (42 days)
        default TTL = 86400 (1 day)

I guess, your ISP's DNS really expire after 42 days, although refresh is set to 1 hour ...
