I received this message when requesting a new workunit this morning. I have been able to run workunits with far less disk space before, and in fact, this project has never required more than a few hundred kilobytes for one project. There is no need to reinstall BOINC manager, since as you can see from these messages, it is up and running. What happened? Could it have to do with being forced to reinstall Windows XP followed by all the SP's and updates so far, since the last work unit was done?

800MB does seem a bit excessive for BOINC.

What are your disk preferences set to? You can find this information on the preferences page on the SETI website.

Also, have you made any changes in the same time frame as you got this message? ex: added or changed any software?

Not sure if this could be a problem or not, but have you ran a virus scan and spyware scan just to be sure they aren't tying up a bunch of space on your HD?

WUs save on your computer, even after they are uploaded. They are not large, but you will slowly lose room.

Also, take a look at yourPreferences and see how much room you are allowing for Seti.

oh, one other thing... are you running the project ClimatePrediction.net on this machine? If so, it can eat up a huge amount of disk space.

I have 50MB allocated for BOINCs use & am running Seti only. With a 4 day cache it's only about 50% used (25MB) at the most.

found this line :

rsc_disk_bound 500000.000000 /rsc_disk_bound

in the sched_reply_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml on my machine

and found this on the BOINC Site:

rsc_disk_bound: A bound on the maximum disk space used by the application, including all input, temporary, and output files. The workunit will only be sent to hosts with at least this much available disk space. If this bound is exceeded, the application will be aborted.

There are two more option in that same group that could affect this problem also.

Use no more than 100 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.001 GB disk space free (this converts to 1MB of disk space)
Use no more than 50% of total disk space

Those are my setting. What are your settings. Perhaps that is where the problem is.

This is a runaway WU that took more disk space than it was supposed to.

800MB does seem a bit excessive for BOINC.

What are your disk preferences set to? You can find this information on the preferences page on the SETI website.

Also, have you made any changes in the same time frame as you got this message? ex: added or changed any software?

The problem cleared up when I changed my disk space preferences.

Also, I have been repairing a corrupted Windows XP installation, installing from original CD and going through several stages of Windows Update. The disk space available was reduced by the temporary space used by Windows Update.

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody.
