Message 138608 - Posted: 18 Jul 2005, 23:01:40 UTC

i see there are a lot of people having problems uploading results. just like me.
i see no answers or information about this problem in the message boards or the seti@home page.

i do not have the time to read all these message boards, information should be on the homepage or on the techinfo page. it is not there.

so i am going to use donator power. (i am not a user.)

i am not leaving seti@home but i am shifting my cpu time more to other boinc projects until this problem is solved.

friendy greetings,
bas

From the front page

July 18, 2005
We are still trying to figure out if there is a software reason for the connection drops but are looking at a hardware solution for the short term. We are working to get a more powerful data server machine online. There are several parts to making this work and, barring any show stoppers, we hope to have it online in the next couple of days.

Some people are "donators" some people are "participants". There is a difference.

sureley, the whole point of BOINC is that you *can* shift your resources about, if certain projects are experiencing trouble?

... Had two units hung up ...

Tried to force one back, and got a validation error. Left the other one alone, and it finally transferred, but not validated as yet.

Do have a download issue: 08fe05ab.29550.15489.811074.207 ... showes in the Transfer Tab with a file size of 353.52KB, but scanned the computer and the file is not found on the machine. The Work Tab shows "Downloading" status and progress percentage is 0.00%.

Need more information to figure this out ....

That work unit has been assigned to you, hasn't succeeded in downloading yet. But like the uploads, you should see it on the Transfers tab with a "retry in hh.mm.ss" status. Give it time, it'll likely get through before the uploads do.

Some of us have already donated money to SETI, and I call on all of you to do the same. Visit this thread for info and link to donation page.

Hi

I don´t think that money is the problem right now.
Of course to have money give a bit room to handle problems.
I donated two times in the last month because of my feelings.
But what they need is time to test something.

greetz and respctfull
Mike

and now the seti boys and girls have the nerve to send me more work. even before taking in the work i did and is blocking my systems.

i had to drop my donated cpu time to seti again.
i apologize for the inconvenience.

if you go on like this there is not much donated cpu time left on this ip.
but who cares, there are suckers enough out there who will donate regardless.....

i wonder, do you handle the people that give you cash money the same way?

well it does not really matter how long you have been doing seti

I just want to know why you are complaining about seti, you say you know the about the problems seti has been having. being here 5 years you should know that problems happen. or am i totally missing your point?

Actually, uploading and downloading work is pretty random -- and under load it is easier to download than it is to upload.

But, the "seti boys and girls" aren't doing anything to you. It's a combination of random number generators and just plain luck.

i pay to donate to seti, i have every right to complain if my payment goes down the drain or is waisted. if i donate my money to science i have every right to complain if that science project is not doing what it promissed and even worse keeps me in the dark about what is happening.

ever tried to look up your pending credit?

ok now that you have mentioned that you pay, i can understand how you feel.

but also, I do not believe your money is being wasted. I also believe that you know that when you donate your money, you know that there could, and will, be problems with the service. I cannot even imagine how hard and exhilirating it must be for the SETI admins to keep track of the hundreds of thousands of lines of code that make up SETI. You have to look at the overall picture here. Most of the time SERI/BOINC works great. It coughs every once in a while. This last outage is a good example. The computers were at fault and had problems. The SETI found and fixed those problems. Not only did they do that, they let the project settle during the downtime so all the other problems could get fixed and so when they brought it up again it would run as smoothly as possible. All I am asking is some patience. It is a virtue. Don't blame the admins and don't blame science for a computer error
